• Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit this week at Bishkek where he would also meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the first meeting between the two leaders after the BJP’s massive victory in the general elections.


• Xi will pay state visits to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan from June [latex]12^{th}[/latex] to [latex]16^{th}[/latex], Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Lu Kang announced here.


• The SCO summit is due to be held on June 13-14 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The SCO is a China-led eight-member economic and security bloc with India and Pakistan being admitted to the grouping in 2017.

• After registering a massive victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, Union Home Minister and BJP president Amit Shah called on a meeting of core groups of Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand to strategise for the assembly polls scheduled to take place in the said states later this year.

• An international team of researchers demonstrated that a form of iron oxide, hematite, can retain its magnetic properties deep down in Earth's mantle, up to a temperature of around 925°C.


• The temperature is comparable to relatively cold tectonic plates, mainly beneath the western Pacific Ocean. Earth's mantle isn't nearly as "magnetically dead" as has so far been assumed, researchers said.
