• Sir Kim Darroch described the move as an act of "diplomatic vandalism", according to the Mail on Sunday.

• An armed man who attacked an immigration detention centre in the US city of Tacoma died after police officers opened fire, authorities say.


• Police said they received reports that a man, armed with a rifle, was throwing "incendiary devices" at the Northwest Detention Center early on Saturday.


• He was later identified as Willem Van Spronsen, who was reportedly involved in an earlier protest at the center.

• Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen visited Haiti on Saturday in an attempt to bolster support in the region after the neighboring Dominican Republic broke diplomatic ties with Taiwan last year.


• The visit to the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince is the first stop on a 12-day trip to the Caribbean, with St Vincent and the Grenadines, St Lucia, St Kitts and Nevis to follow.


• Speaking at an event with Haitian President Jovenel Moise, Ms. Tsai stressed the importance of the countries' relationship, which dates back 63 years.

• China's southeast coast is one of the country's most sensitive regions as it faces Taiwan across the narrow Taiwan Strait. China deems democratic Taiwan to be a wayward province, to be taken by force if needed.


• China's military recently carried out air and naval drills along its southeast coast, the Defence Ministry said on Sunday, following the latest arms sales from the United States to self-ruled Taiwan, which China claims as a renegade province.
