MoU was signed between India and Poland in the field of coal mining and clean coal technologies

  • The Ministry of Coal, Government of India signed an MoU with Ministry of Energy, Republic of Poland in-order to foster relations in the field of coal mining and clean coal technologies.

  • The MoU was signed between Sh. Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister of State for Coal and Mines and Mr. Grzegorz Tobiszowski, Secretary of State, Ministry of Energy, Republic of Poland.

  • The objective of MoU includes promoting trade and investment in the coal sector, enhancing the understanding of coal related energy issues, clean coal technologies.

  • The new agreement will also promote the exchange of information on policies, programmes and technologies with special emphasis on coal exploration and exploitation, research and development, technical cooperation and capacity building.
5-Member Committee to Promote Dairy Farming was set up by Punjab to Boost Farmers Income

  • Punjab government headed by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh decided to constitute a high-powered committee to prepare a comprehensive action plan for boosting the dairy sector with the aim of supplementing the income of farmers in a result-oriented manner.

  • The committee will consist of 5 members including Chairman State Farmers Commission, Director Animal Husbandry, Director Dairy Development, a representative of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU).

  • The role of the committee will be to recommend measures for promoting diversification of agriculture with the aim of enhancing farmers’ income from allied sources.

  • Besides Israeli dairy farming expert Yehuda Sprecher would also be engaged to advise the Animal Husbandry department of Punjab.

  • The suggestions by Yehuda Sprecher include: improving the quality of feed and fodder to increase the quantity and quality of milk in the state. He also apprised about other issues like heat stress, increasing carbon footprint and importance of Total Mixed Ration feed.
67th Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference is being organized by AFMC, Pune

  • The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune organized the 67th Annual Armed Forces Medical Conference which is the largest gathering and the only multi-specialty conference of its kind in the country. The conference will conclude on 8th February 2019.

  • The 4 day conference which was organised under the supervision of Surg Vice Admiral Ravi Kalra was inaugurated by Lt Gen Bipin Puri, Director General, Armed Forces Medical Services.

  • The conference witnessed the marking of platinum jubilee year of the Medical Journal Armed Forces India (MJAFI) which is the official quarterly Journal published by the Armed Forces Medical Services of India and contains high quality biomedical multi-speciality research from doctor scientists across the world.

  • The conference will also include the 57th Armed Forces Medical Research Committee Meeting to discuss new research proposals. It is scheduled on February 6 and 7.

  • Axis Bank, UCO Bank and Syndicate Bank are Penalised with a total of Rs.5.2 Crore by RBI Bank for violating the guidelines in regulatory compliance.

  • The Segregation of the Penalised amount are as follows, Axis Bank and UCO Bank has been imposed with a Penalty of Rs.2 Crore each for their not commiting with the norms related to payment through cheques.

  • Further Axis Bank has also imposed a Penalty of 20 Lakhs for the detection and impounding of counterfeit notes.

Government forecasted 7.5 per cent GDP growth in FY20

  • The Economic Affairs Secretary, Subhash Chandra Garg said that the finance ministry is expecting the GDP growth to reach 7.5 per cent in 2019-20 from 7.2 per cent projected for the current fiscal.

  • The Government is expecting a nominal growth of 11.5 per cent (for 2019-20) and inflation to remain at 4 per cent.

  • The Economic Affairs Secretary stated that India remains the fastest growing major economy in the world.

  • He also emphasised on the annual average GDP growth during the last five years which is higher than the growth achieved by any government since economic reforms began in 1991.

  • In 2016-17, the year in which the demonetisation of high-denomination currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 took place, the GDP growth rate was 8.2 per cent.
Government will form working group to resolve startups’ angel tax issue

  • Industry and Internal trade secretary Ramesh Abhishek notified that government will form a small working group to have a watch over the matter of angel tax profiled by startups.

  • This was concluded against the surrounding of various startups raising issues on notices under Section 56(2) of the Income Tax Act to pay taxes on angel funds. Government may further exempt start-ups and investors from paying angel tax.

  • Different surveys showed that more than 2,000 startups which had been given funding from investor angel, private and venture capital funds have received notices under the angel tax.
