NBFCs’ fund-raise from securitisation grows 2.5 times
Key Highlights:

  • NBFCs have raised Rs 26,200 crore through securitisation in FY19, more than two and a half times the Rs 9,700 crore raised in FY18. This follows the relaxation of norms by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which has helped them reduce dependence on banks and other finance companies.

  • From an average 18-20% of overall disbursements, securitisation funded 37% of loans disbursed in Q3 and might increase to 50% by Q4FY2019, according to ICRA estimates.

  • Reuters journalists, Kyaw Soe Oo and Wa Lone have been selected for UNESCO/Guillermo Cano Press Freedom Prize 2019 are being conferred as praise to their commitment, courage and resistance to freedom of expression.

  • Currently, they are serving seven-year prison sentences in Myanmar since 12 December 2017 under the Official Secrets Act for, while working for the Reuters,they illegally collected classified military records that revealed extrajudicial assassinations of Rohingya Muslims by the army in Rakhine State.

  • The UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize will be given on May 2 as part of the observance of World Press Freedom Day (3 May) in Ethiopia.

  • The award is a tribute to Colombian journalist Guillermo Cano Isaza. On 17 December 1986, he was killed in front of the offices of his newspaper El Espectador in Bogota, Colombia.

  • The prize honours an institution or person who has made a notable contribution to the defence and promotion of press freedom.

  • The Prize was founded on the initiative of UNESCO’s Executive Board and is awarded by the DG of the Organization, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, on 3 May.

  • Former Director of Indian Space Research Organisation Satellite Centre (ISAC), SK Shivakumar died at the age of 66 in Bengaluru. He hailed from Mysuru, Karnataka.

  • He was part of the team which had developed telemetry system for India’s first moon mission Chandrayan – I.

  • He served as the project director for India’s first indigenous Deep Space Network Antenna at Byalalu. He also led the team of 2,500 engineers which contributed to ISRO’s Mangalyaan Mission.

  • He contributed in several missions like Bhaskara, INSAT, IRS-1B and IRS-1C. He also served as the director of ISRO Telemetry, Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC).

  • He was Padma shree awardee and also honoured with Karnataka Rajyotsava award (2008).
