  • California’s powerful India-origin Democratic Senator Kamala Harris has raised more than $23 million since she announced her presidential bid in January.

  • Among over 20 Democratic presidential aspirants, Ms. Harris (54), whose mother had migrated to the US from Chennai, is running neck to neck with former US vice president Joe Biden, particularly after her impressive show at the first primary debate held recently.

  • The production of India’s first semi high-speed train has come to a grinding halt at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai. The work on rolling out ten trains this fiscal remains a non-starter despite floating of tenders.

  • The design of the successfully running Train18 has been found to be violative of certain specifications and will go back to the drawing table.

  • Investigation is also on into allegations that one company was favoured in the making of the ₹97 crore train set, railway sources said.
UAE Foreign minister arrives in India energy, trade high on agenda of visit

  • United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan arrived in New Delhi on July 7 night and will hold talks with his Indian counterpart S Jaishankar to boost cooperation in key sectors such as trade and energy.

  • The UAE minister will also call on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and participate in a business roundtable on July 8.

  • The Commissioner of Entrance Examination, Kerala (CEE Kerala) will release the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) 2019 second allotment list on Monday, July 8, 2019. The first allotment list was released on June 21.
SAMS Odisha +3 degree admissions to be closed today

  • The online window to apply for the plus 3-degree admissions in Odisha will be closed on Monday, July 8, 2019. The candidates who want to apply can do so through the website- samsodisha.gov.in.

    • Candidates can select up to five options, as the name of all colleges will be updated in the application form. Students will have to choose the college of preference based on which admission will be granted.
FCI phase 1 result will be available on the official website fci.gov.in as and when the result link is generated.

  • For those who have applied but do not want to appear for the exam a withdrawal window will open from July 15 to July 22. The application process will be closed tomorrow.

  • Candidates will have to appear for the entrance exam scheduled to be conducted on September 8. Those who qualify the exam will be trained at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air force Academy (AFA), Indian Military Academy (IMA), and Officer’s Training Academy (OTA) – as suitable for their profile.

Deutsche Bank axes whole teams in Asia-Pacific as 18,000 job cuts begin

  • Shares of Punjab National Bank (PNB) plunge as much as 8.2 per cent to ₹75.10, their lowest since June 20. The state-owned lender said on Saturday it had detected a ₹3,800 crore ($554.1 mln) borrowing fraud in Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd's account.

  • PNB says Bhushan Power & Steel misappropriated bank funds, manipulated books of accounts to raise funds from consortium lender banks, adding it has made provisions of ₹1,932 crore in Bhushan's account.
