• External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held bilateral meetings with his counterparts from China, Australia and Ukraine and discussed a variety of issues such as energy, technology and boosting bilateral ties.

• Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman hosted Iraq's Prime Minister Adel Abdel Mahdi for talks on Wednesday focused on attacks on the kingdom's oil infrastructure, which Washington has blamed on Iran.


• "The meeting dealt with regional developments, particularly the sabotage attacks on Saudi Aramco plants in Abqaiq and Khurais, stressing Iraqi keenness on the security and stability of the kingdom," the official Saudi Press Agency reported.

• Israel’s president on September 25 tasked Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with forming a new government after last week’s deadlocked elections, his office announced.

• Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said that secularism is not under threat in India and that it is promoted by the ethos of the society.


• "I don't accept that secularism is under threat in India," Mr. Jaishankar said on Wednesday (local time) at a conference at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) in New York.


• "At the end of the day," he added, "secularism was not promoted by the law or by a constitutional belief. Instead, it was promoted by the ethos of the society."

• India and Pakistan are at very serious odds over Kashmir right now, US President Donald Trump said, adding that he would do "whatever he can" to settle the issue between the two countries.


• President Trump also said he has had "very productive conversations" with the leaders of India and Pakistan on the margins of the UN General Assembly.

• The HRD Ministry directed the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) to expedite the recruitment process after the issue of faculty shortage was raised before it.

• Press Trust of India reported that the proposed Higher Education Commission of India or HECI will replace the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), and with that, two major higher education regulators will come under one umbrella, the other one being University Grants Commission (UGC).

• Private sector lender, Axis Bank, said its qualified institutional placement was over-subscribed, with the aggregate final transaction size being Rs 12,500 crore.

• Britain’s Sebastian Coe was re-elected as the chief of the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) for a second term.


• A former Olympic and world champion, Coe was previously elected as the head of IAAF in 2015.


• During his first term as the IAAF chief, Coe had set up Athletics Integrity Unit that serves as watchdog in cleaning sport corruptions.

• Legal expert Sudhir Krishnaswamy on Wednesday took charge as the vice-chancellor of the National Law School of India University just two days after students at the prestigious institution had boycotted an exam pressing for his appointment.


• Krishnaswamy is an alumnus of the NLSIU and graduated from the varsity in 1998. He went on to study Bachelor of Civil Law and received a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University.


• Krishnaswamy has many other achievements, too. He was the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Visiting Professor of Indian Constitutional Law at Columbia Law School.

• Boman Rashid Kohinoor, co-owner of Iranian-Parsi restaurant Britannia & Co in Mumbai, passed away on Wednesday at the city's Parsee General Hospital aged 97.


• He was suffering from cardiac issues, the hospital said. Boman had taken charge of the restaurant at a young age after his father, who set it up in 1923, died in an accident.

• Jacques Chirac, a two-term French president who was the first leader to acknowledge France’s role in the Holocaust and defiantly opposed the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003, died at age 86.


• His son-in-law Frederic Salat-Baroux told The Associated Press that Chirac died “peacefully, among his loved ones.” He did not give a cause of death, though Chirac had repeated health problems since leaving office in 2007.
