  • The Congress Working Committee meeting will be held on August 10 to lay the ground work to elect the new president of the party. The meeting comes more than two months after Rahul Gandhi quit the post.

  • “It has been decided to hold the next Congress Working Committee Meeting on Saturday, 10th of August, 11:00 am at AICC (All India Congress Committee),” general secretary (organization) K. C. Venugopal said in a tweet. According to sources, a draft resolution has been prepared, thanking the outgoing president Rahul Gandhi and formally accepting his resignation. This provides finality to Mr. Gandhi’s exit and ends the ongoing stalemate.

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the exam schedule for the year 2020 on its official website upsc.gov.in. Every year, UPSC releases an exam calendar mentioning the important dates of notification , application and date of exam.

  • One of the most important exams of UPSC, the civil services prelims exam will be held on June May 31, 2020, for which the notification will be released on February 12 and the last date to apply is March 3, 2020. The civil services main exam will commence from September 18, 2019.

  • The year 2020 will begin with Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination for which the notification will be issued on September 25, 2019, and exam will be held on January 5, 2020.

RBI may have headroom for 25 bps repo rate cut

  • Reserve Bank of India is expected to continue to do some heavy lifting to revitalise growth by cutting the policy repo rate by 25 basis points for the fourth time on the trot in the upcoming bi-monthly monetary policy review.

  • In the 2019 calendar year so far, the repo rate has been cut thrice by 25 bps each, from 6.50 percent to 6.25 percent in February; 6.25 percent to 6 percent in April; and 6 percent to 5.75 percent in June.
