RBI cuts repo rate for 3rd time in a row by 25 bps to 5.75%

  • With retail inflation contained within the 4 per cent target, the Reserve Bank of India cut the policy repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.75 per cent. This is the third time on the trot in 2019 that the central bank has cut rates to support growth. One basis point equals one hundredth of a percentage point.

  • The six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted by a 6-0 majority to reduce the policy repo rate from 6 per cent to 5.75 per cent.
