• Pakistan said on Thursday it would ban the screening of Indian films in the country’s cinemas, as tensions between the two countries rise over the Kashmir region.


• “No Indian cinema will be screened in any Pakistani cinema. Drama, films and Indian content of this kind will be completely banned in Pakistan,” Firdous Ashiq Awan, an adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan said.

• A Sukhoi-30 (Su-30MKI) fighter jet of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed in Tezpur on August 8. Both pilots have ejected safely.


• “This evening a Su-30 aircraft on a routine training mission from Tezpur crashed in the local flying area,” the IAF said in a statement.


• Both pilots ejected safely from the aircraft and have been rescued, IAF added. A Court of Inquiry will ascertain the cause of the accident.

• Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan government’s efforts to internationalize the revoking of Articles 370 and 35-A by India were dampened yet again with the Taliban advocating restraint to both India and Pakistan and completely rejecting any linkage between Afghanistan and Kashmir.


• While Pakistan Army has said that it was prepared to go to any lengths to fulfill what it calls its “Kashmir obligations”, Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid has urged both countries to “ refrain from taking steps that could pave a way for violence and complications in the region and usurp the rights of Kashmiris.”

• Former President Pranab Mukherjee, Assamese singer-composer Bhupen Hazarika and social activist Nanaji Deshmukh will be awarded the country's highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna, by President Ram Nath Kovind.


• Bhupen Hazarika and Nanaji Deshmukh will be honoured posthumously. The announcement for Bharat Ratna was made on January 25 in a statement issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
