• The US State Department barred entry to 16 Saudi nationals over what it described as their role in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi as the administration of Donald Trump continues to face harsh criticism over its handling of the affair.


• Dissident writer Khashoggi was killed and dismembered in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul by a team of 15 agents sent from Riyadh, sparking unprecedented international scrutiny of the kingdom's human rights record.

• Indonesia is set to install buoys and cable base tsunameters (CBT) near Mount Krakatau volcano to give early warning when tidal waves occur near the volcano.


• The move came following the tsunami triggered by eruption of Child of Krakatau volcano in December that left over 400 people dead, more than 14,000 injured and massive damages along Sunda Strait.


• The Indonesian agency for the assessment and application of technology (BPPT) will install a buoy and a CTB together in the water near the Mount Krakatau.

• Afghan forces have launched an operation to drive back the Taliban four days after the insurgents attacked and besieged an army compound in the western Badghis province.


• Col. Qais Mangal, a Defense Ministry spokesman, said that at least 12 security forces have been killed in the last 48 hours, bringing the overall death toll to more than 40. Mangal says dozens of insurgents have been killed and wounded by air and ground forces.

• A US judge halted the Trump administration`s policy of sending some asylum seekers back across the southern border to wait out their cases in Mexico, stopping a program the government planned to expand to stem a recent flood of migrants.


• The ruling is slated to take effect, according to the order by U.S. District Judge Richard Seeborg in San Francisco.

• The Biannual Army Commanders’ Conference began in New Delhi for the planning and execution process of the Indian Army.


• Some issues like the management of the extant security dynamics, mitigation of future security threats were discussed in this conference.


• Other issues, such as development of infrastructure for improvement of capacity along the Northern borders, review of strategic railway lines, optimization of a limited budget to ensure making up of critical insufficiency in ammunition and welfare of troops also discussed.

• Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore overtook IIM Ahmedabad in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings, to become the leading business school of the country in 2019.


• IIM Ahmedabad, which was ranked number 1 under the Management category in NIRF 2018 and 2017, settled at the second spot in the latest rankings.

• President Ram Nath Kovind launched 'CRPF veer pariwar mobile' application to help the families of martyrs.

• Parents in the UAE are now demanding a ban on online multiplayer game PUBG as it has been deemed a "bad influence on youth".


• This comes after several cities in Gujarat imposed a ban on playing the game. Earlier in March, over 10 people were arrested in Gujarat's Rajkot for playing PUBG during the ban.

• The Punjab National Bank (PNB)'s 13 per cent stake sale in PNB Housing Finance for Rs. 1,850 crore will strengthen the bank's capital.


• The Report said that it estimates the sale will increase PNB's Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratio by about 40 basis points from the 6.9 per cent reported in December 2018.

• Scientists at the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) have discovered a new enzyme which helps in breaking cell walls of bacteria and hence, offers a potential for a new drug delivery route to arrest the anti-bacterial resistance through existing antibiotic drugs.


• At a press conference here on Tuesday, CCMB director Rakesh Mishra and senior scientist Manjula Reddy explained that it is crucial to know how cells grow in bacteria to understand the anti-bacterial resistance to currently available antibiotics.
