• President Donald Trump`s national security adviser, John Bolton, said that the United States would look at ramping up sanctions on North Korea if Pyongyang did not scrap its nuclear weapons programme.


• Bolton told Fox Business Network that following the Hanoi summit between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Washington would see whether Pyongyang was committed to giving up its "nuclear weapons programme and everything associated with it."

• Mufti Abdul Rauf Asghar, the operational chief of Jaish-e-Mohammad, was just 24 years old when he masterminded the hijacking of IC-814 Indian Airlines commercial flight in 1999, which led India to finally release his elder brother Maulana Masood Azhar.


• Since then, Asghar, who is among India’s top five ‘most wanted’ terrorists, has planned every major Jaish attack in India – including the 2001 fidayeen attacks on J&K assembly and Parliament, 2016 Pathankot IAF base attack, attacks on Nagrota and Kathua camps and the recent Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel, on direct orders from Azhar.

• Jailed former South Korean president Lee Myung-bak was granted bail, nearly a year after he was arrested over corruption charges.


• The CEO-turned president, who served from 2008 to 2013, was found guilty on charges including bribery and embezzlement and sentenced to 15 years in prison last October.


• But the Seoul High Court approved the request for bail that the 77-year-old Lee made on the grounds of ill health.

• Pakistan the country's High Commissioner to India Sohail Mahmood will return to New Delhi more than two weeks after he was recalled for consultations by Islamabad.


• Pakistan added its delegation would visit India on March 14 to discuss the draft agreement on the Kartarpur Corridor. The Indian delegation would visit Islamabad on March 28.

• The Defence Ministry announced women officers will be granted Permanent Commission in the Indian Army in all the ten branches where women are inducted for Short Service Commission.


• Besides existing two streams of Judge Advocate General (JAG) and Army Education Corps, now Permanent Commission will be granted in Signals, Engineers, Army Aviation and Army Air Defence among others.

• Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh blamed the West Bengal government for delay in fencing along the India-Bangladesh border.


• Singh said the Home Ministry had notified the West Bengal government to acquire land so that fences could be constructed along the border between the two nations.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the “One Nation, One Card” programme to ensure seamless travel across the country. The card can be used for payments across different segments, including Metro, bus, suburban railways, toll, parking and retail purchases.


• The Indigenous Automatic Fare Collection System based on the “One Nation, One Card” model, for example the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC), is the first of its kind in India.


• The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) came out with the NCMC programme to ensure seamless travel across different transport segments.

• Delhi has topped the list of the most polluted cities in the world in a recent study conducted by environment NGO Greenpeace India. New Delhi was ranked first among 62 polluted cities in the report, Global Air Pollution 2018.


• The report accompanies an extended online interactive display of the world’s most polluted cities, allowing further exploration of air quality across different regions and sub regions in 2018.

• ICICI Bank said it has acquired 9.9 percent stake in non-banking finance company Kisan Finance for cash consideration of Rs 17.82 crore.


• The acquisition is expected to be over by the end of March 2019. Kisan Rural Finance Ltd (Kisan Finance), was incorporated in December 2017.

• The Geological Survey of India (GSI) launched 22 permanent global positioning system (GPS) stations across India to identify seismically hazardous zones and encourage mapping activities.
  
• The GSI has taken a stride to establish and maintain a network of continuously operating 35 permanent GPS stations in a phased manner. So far, 22 GPS permanent stations have been set up and another 13 will be operational by March 2020.


• These stations are meant to delineate high strain zones for earthquake probability, determine a seismic motion on faults that may lead to a rupture and produce thematic maps with high positional accuracy.

• China lowered its economic growth target for this year to between 6 per cent and 6.5 per cent. Opening the annual session of China’s legislature, Premier Li Keqiang laid out plans to fend off risks in the economy and keep the nation’s jobless rate steady.


• Li nodded to the “uncertainties of the China-US trade friction” that weigh on growth and the negotiations for a resolution.

• Veteran leg-spinner Imran Tahir would retire from one-day international cricket after the World Cup in England and Wales, which ends on July 14. He would like to continue playing for South Africa in Twenty20 internationals.


• Tahir, who has taken 156 wickets in 95 one-day internationals, played in the 2011 and 2015 World Cups. He also played in the 2014 and 2016 World T20 tournaments.

• Indian Bank, a Public Sector Bank (PSB), headquartered at Chennai, Tamil Nadu has been awarded the Best Bank Award by the Tamil Nadu government for successfully meeting the needs of women’s self-help groups (SHGs).


• The award was given to MK Bhattacharya, the executive director of Indian Bank by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K Palaniswami at Salem, Tamil Nadu.

• Veteran Indian sports administrator Randhir Singh has been appointed as the chairman of the Coordination Committee of the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games by the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).


• The 72-year-old Randhir, a five-time Olympian shooter, is currently a Honorary Life Vice-President of the OCA. He had served as Secretary General of the OCA for 24 years from 1991 to 2015.

• Former union minister V Dhananjay Kumar passed away. He was 67. Kumar began his stint in politics with Jana Sangh and entered the BJP in 1983.


• After which he contested polls from Mangaluru constituency and subsequently became an MP and worked as a minister in the central government at the time when late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the aviation minister.
