• Pakistan launched a special song ahead of the inauguration of the corridor connecting Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur in India to Darbar Sahib Gurdwara in Kartarpur, Pakistan this week.


• According to Express Tribune, the song was released by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan. It is an official song of the Kartarpur Corridor Opening ceremony.

• The United States imposed sanctions on nine people close to Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, including his chief of staff, one of his sons and the head of the judiciary.


• Coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Iran's seizure of the U.S. embassy in Tehran, the U.S. Treasury Department said it also was blacklisting Iran's Armed Forces General Staff.


• "Today the Treasury Department is targeting the unelected officials who surround Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and implement his destabilizing policies," Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.

• The Nitish Kumar government imposed a complete ban of state-owned vehicles which were more than 15 years old in Bihar, taking note of the surge in pollution levels that has been recorded during the recent festive season.


• Talking to reporters in Patna after a high-level meeting on pollution control chaired by the Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Deepak Kumar said the restriction on vehicles more than 15 years old has also been extended to commercial vehicles "only for the Patna metropolitan area".

• Union Home Minister Amit Shah said over three lakh people have lost their lives in SCO countries during different natural calamities in two decades beginning 1996 while two lakh of them died due to earthquakes.


• Inaugurating the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) joint exercise on Urban Earthquake Search and Rescue (SCOJtEx)-2019, Mr. Shah said that it will be very useful for improving collective preparedness and building a common understanding of internationally recognized procedures to coordinate post-earthquake responses.

• Describing climate change as the biggest threat to sustainability, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has voiced deep concern over the rising level of oceans and said the most vulnerable areas are in Japan, China, Bangladesh and India.

• In Maharashtra, the impasse on government formation has entered 12th day after the BJP-Shiv Sena combine, which is comfortably past the 145-majority mark in 288-member Assembly, had a fallout over Sena's demand of "50:50 arrangement". Amid power tussle with the BJP, Sena has hinted an alliance with the NCP and Congress.


• Sources, however, have told NDTV that Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has said her party won't support Sena in Maharashtra. Mr. Pawar has indicated that he would hold another meeting with Ms. Gandhi in the near future.

• The RCEP agreement was against India's economic interest and national priorities, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said as the country decided not to join the China-backed mega free trade deal.

• HDFC has reported a consolidated net profit worth over ₹10,748 crore, up by 76.3%, in the second quarter ended September 30.


• Its standalone net profit rose by 60.6% to ₹3,961 crore from ₹2,467 crore in the year-ago period. HDFC's consolidated net profit during the corresponding three months of 2018-19 stood at over ₹6,096 crore.

• Facebook has unveiled a new company logo that will also appear on its acquired brands including Instagram and WhatsApp.
