• The demand for ‘job-oriented’ undergraduate programmes offered by affiliated colleges of Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) seems declining.


• Many such courses, which had shown a downward trend over the last three years, have only a few takers this time too.


• Going by the varsity’s Centralised Allotment Process (CAP) for the new academic year, the option count for nearly 70 programmes was less than 1,000.

• The Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) has issued orders to stop production at Krebs Biochemicals and Industries Limited at Kothapalli in Kasimkota mandal, after finding evidence on violation of emission norms.


• The action followed a series of complaints on discharge of untreated effluents outside the factory premises leading to severe surface water contamination from the villagers in the vicinity, social activist and former bureaucrat E.A.S. • Private sector lender Lakshmi Vilas Bank plans to raise ₹700-1,000 crore this fiscal.


• The bank’s proposal for merger with Indiabulls Housing Finance is pending with the Reserve Bank of India, and is keen on finding investors to meet its immediate capital requirements.


• “I am looking at what I will do till I merge. The board has decided to allot 4.99 per cent to Indiabulls Housing Finance.


• The intention is to raise some more capital. It is not unlikely we will try to raise anywhere between ₹700 crore to ₹1,000 crore,” said Parthasarathi Mukherjee, Managing Director and CEO, Lakshmi Vilas Bank.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has carried out important changes in its master direction on Know-Your-Customer (KYC) for regulated entities (REs), including allowing banks to carry out Aadhaar authentication/offline verification of an individual who voluntarily uses his Aadhaar number for identification purpose, and adding ‘proof of possession of Aadhaar number’ to the list of Officially Valid Documents (OVD).


• Further, REs other than banks can identify a customer through offline verification under the Aadhaar Act with his/her consent.
