• Boris Johnson is to try again for a 12 December general election on Tuesday - despite MPs rejecting his plan.


• The prime minister will publish a bill that would only need a simple majority to succeed - not two thirds as required in previous attempts.


• But he would still need support from Lib Dems and the SNP for it to pass.


• Mr. Johnson told MPs Parliament was "dysfunctional" and could "no longer keep this country hostage" but Labour said the PM could not be trusted.

• The UK parliament has just rejected Boris Johnson's bid to call a snap general election - for a third time - despite the prime minister arguing it would help "get Brexit done". But there remains a chance that the UK could have a pre-Christmas election.

• Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong said he had been barred from standing in an upcoming local election, after months of protests in the city.

• British MPs defeated yet another attempt by Prime Minister Boris Johnson to force an early election, just hours after the European Union agreed to postpone Brexit for up to three months.


• The Conservative leader immediately announced an alternative plan to hold a snap poll that could yet see an election in early December.


• Johnson suffered a major setback earlier when he was forced to agree to delay Britain's departure from the European Union beyond this week's October 31 deadline.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Riyadh for a two-day state visit. The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the third edition of Saudi Arabia's high-profile annual financial conference and hold bilateral talks with top leadership of the Gulf Kingdom.


• "Landed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, marking the start of an important visit aimed at strengthening ties with a valued friend. Will be taking part in a wide range of programs during this visit," the Prime Minister tweeted.

• The Trump administration's point person for international religious freedom is on a visit to India and met Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in Himachal Pradesh's Dharamshala, according to the US State Department.


• Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom Sam Brownback began his trip to Dharamshala on October 28, where he delivered remarks alongside the Dalai Lama at the 60th-anniversary celebration of the Tibetan Institute for the Performing Arts, it said.

• Underlining that the economic uncertainty is an offshoot of "unbalanced" multilateral trade systems, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asserted that the global economic outlook is strongly dependent on the path chartered by large developing countries like India and Saudi Arabia.


• Earlier this month, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has downgraded its outlook for the world economy, predicting that the growth this year will be the weakest since the 2008 financial crisis primarily because of widening global conflicts, including the US-China trade war.

• The HRD Ministry, which is in the process of giving final shape to the new National Education Policy (NEP), has laid down a six-point roadmap for its implementation and decided to conduct a comprehensive review of the implementation status in 2030.


• After some state governments and stakeholders raised concerns about the NEP draft, saying less has been talked about the implementation roadmap, the ministry outlined six guiding principles in the final draft which will be placed before the cabinet soon.

• CBSE or Central Board of Secondary Education, the national level body which conducts secondary and higher secondary certificate exams, will hold the CBSE Class 10 annual exams next year in March.


• As part of the preparations for the Class 10 and Class 12 exams, the Board has released the sample question papers and marking schemes for all the subjects using which the students may refer and get accustomed with the exam patterns (refer the CBSE Class 10 sample question paper for Social Science here).

• National Institute of Open Schooling or NIOS will close the registration window for the last supplementary examination for D.El.Ed. course for untrained In-Service Teachers of NIOS (MHRD) soon.


• Last date for registering for the NIOS D.El.Ed. supplementary examination is October 31. The examination will be conducted for course codes 501-510.


• The examination has been scheduled in January and will be conducted in the afternoon session, i.e. from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The registration for the exam can be done at dled.nios.ac.in.

• AICTE approved institutions recently, the Council, which regulates technical higher education institutions in the country, said it will initiate strong disciplinary action against institutions which indulge in the practice of "sharing of faculty members amongst institutes under the same parent organization / outside".


• According to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), it will initiate enquiry on any such complaint or information received on the issue and if found correct, action will be taken including withdrawal of approval.

• Maharashtra’s State Common Entrance Test cell has released the dates for entrance test to admissions in undergraduate (UG) programmes in engineering, pharmacy in agriculture in colleges of Maharashtra. Candidates can download the datesheet from the official website at cetcell.mahacet.org.


• According to the date sheet, the exam will be held in the month of May 2020.


• Maharashtra state common entrance test cell will conduct 16 programs offered at various institutes of Maharashtra. MHT CET 2020 will be held in computer-based test mode.

• The Kerala-based South Indian Bank is going ahead with its capital raising plans for which the Board has given its approval to issue Rs 500 crore Tier II bonds.

• After owners of Goodwin Jewellers allegedly fled with crores of customer money, a customer named Sarita Angre revealed she had invested around ₹2 lakh with jewellery shop in Maharashtra's Dombivli.


• Sarita added she had lost ₹5 lakh in PMC bank scam. The Dombivli branch of Goodwin Jewellers has been shut since October. Goodwin Jewellers has 14 outlets across Maharashtra.

• The US special forces raid targeting ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was named for Kayla Mueller, a young aid worker who was one of several Americans killed while being held by the ISIS.


• Mueller was kidnapped in 2013 in northern Syria during a visit to a hospital. US officials confirmed her death in 2015.


• Her father, Carl Mueller, said it had been "a roller coaster of emotions" waiting for President Donald Trump to announce the demise of the man responsible for his daughter's death.

• A Nepali mountaineer has claimed to have smashed the record for summiting the world's 14 highest peaks.


• Nirmal Purja, according to a post on his social media account, completed the climb of the 14 mountains, all over 8,000 metres (26,250 feet) in seven months. The previous record was seven years, 11 months and 14 days.

• An Indian-American interventional gastroenterologist, who is focused on developing novel approaches to fight obesity, is among 15 people appointed to the prestigious 2019-2020 Class of White House Fellows, the White House said.


• New York-based Amit Sachdev, an interventional gastroenterologist and board-certified internist who completed his training at Brigham and Women's Hospital and Harvard Medical School, is the only Indian-American appointed to the fellowship.

• Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has been appointed the next Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind.


• Justice Bobde, who succeeds Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, will take oath on November 18. Justice Bobde is a former Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He is due to retire on 23 April 2021.


• Born on 24 April 1956 at Nagpur, Maharashtra, Justice Bobde studied in the Nagpur University.
