• Echoing the cautionary words from her famous speech at the World Economic Forum earlier this year, Swedish Climate Change activist Greta Thunberg jumped on the bandwagon to sum up 2019 in just five words, reminding the world once again of the fact that “our house is on fire.”


• “Our house is on fire. #2019in5words,” Thunberg tweeted.


• The 16-year old activist had risen to prominence with her speech at the World Economic Forum in January, which called on the world to “ act as you would in a crisis. I want you to act as if our house is on fire.

• The blast occurred at a busy intersection southwest of Mogadishu where traffic is heavy because of a security checkpoint and a tax office.

• An Indian national was among six people killed when two buses crashed into a truck in Egypt’s Suez governorate, according to a media report.

• December 31 is the deadline to link your PAN and Aadhaar card. While you might be busy preparing plans to celebrate the New Year, the Income Tax Department has made it mandatory for you to connect your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with Aadhaar before the end of this year.


• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) in September this year extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar card with PAN from September 30 to December 31.


• People failing to meet the deadline will no longer be able to file their income tax returns and their PAN will become inoperative.

• Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has released the admit card for the Grade I School Lecturer exam which is dues to be held from January 3 to January 13.


• The exam will be held in two sessions on each day. The admit card for the Lecturer exam is available on the Commission's website.


• RPSC had, in 2018, announced a total of 5000 teacher posts for different subjects.

• Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on November 28 said that Department of Revenue (DoR) will mandate all businesses having a turnover of above Rs 50 crore to provide payment modes UPI QR code or RuPay debit card to ensure they do not charge a merchant discount rate (MDR) fee from January onwards.

• Peter Siddle, veteran Australian fast bowler, announced his retirement from international cricket after a 67-Test career, with national coach Justin Langer praising him as giving his "heart and soul" to the team.

• The head of the Sri Pejavara Adhokshaja Mutt, Vishwesha Teertha Swami, died on Sunday in Karnataka’s Udupi after battling ill health for the past few days. He was 88.


• Doctors at the Kasturba Hospital, where he was in the intensive care unit (ICU) since he was hospitalized on December 20 after developing breathing difficulties, had said that his condition was very critical. They had also said that there was a further decline in his condition.
