  • Boeing Co Chief Executive Dennis Muilenburg will testify for two days before Congress starting on Tuesday, which is the anniversary of the Lion Air 737 MAX crash in Indonesia, the first of two crashes within five months that killed a total of 346 people.
China Passes Cryptography Law as It Gears Up for Digital Currency

  • China's largely rubber stamp parliament has passed a new law on cryptography as the country gears up to launch its own digital currency, state media reported late.

  • China's central bank set up a research team in 2014 to explore launching its own digital currency to cut the costs of circulating traditional paper money and boost policymakers' control of money supply.

  • China's proposed new digital currency would bear some similarities to Facebook's Libra coin and would be able to be used across major payment platforms such as WeChat and Alipay, a senior central bank official said last month.

UK’s Prince Charles to visit India for the second time in two years

  • Charles, 70, will arrive in New Delhi for the two-day visit on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

  • It will be Charles’ 10th official visit to India. His last was as part of a joint tour with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to Brunei, India, Singapore, and Malaysia in November 2017.

  • West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar along with his wife attended the Kali Puja at Mamata Banerjee’s residence and spent more than an hour chatting with the chief minister, members of the cabinet and guests. He also prayed before the idol of Kali and watched the puja.

  • Though the enclosure set up outside Banerjee’s small single-story house at Kalighat in south Kolkata was out of bounds for the media, Dhankhar could be seen hugging Trinamool Congress (TMC) secretary-general and education minister Partha Chatterjee and exchanging pleasantries with him. ASI finds 2,000-year-old trade center in Andhra Pradesh

  • The excavations were performed at the state’s Gottiprolu that began in December, 2018.

  • The ASI unearthed brick-built structures in varied shapes. The sizes of the bricks were common in the Satavahana/Ikshvaku period of the Krishna valley.

  • Also, the team unearthed four-armed sculptures of Lord Vishnu. The sculpture belongs to the Pallava period according to the analysis of headgear and drapery.

  • Also, a series of broken terracotta pipes were found. This suggests that the period had a good system of drainage.

  • So far, the ASI has excavated about 10% of the site in the first round. The second round is set to begin in November or December 2019.

  • Two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters have successfully evacuated a civilian aircraft, which had recently crashed at the Kedarnath helipad at an altitude of 11,500 feet.

  • Mi-17 V5 helicopters of Indian Air Force were tasked to undertake a very challenging task of evacuating a crashed aircraft of UT Air Private limited from high altitude region of Kedarnath," an IAF spokesperson said.

World Bank to continue with $6 bn annual lending target for India
