• China's largely rubber stamp parliament has passed a new law on cryptography as the country gears up to launch its own digital currency, state media reported late.


• China's central bank set up a research team in 2014 to explore launching its own digital currency to cut the costs of circulating traditional paper money and boost policymakers' control of money supply.


• China's proposed new digital currency would bear some similarities to Facebook's Libra coin and would be able to be used across major payment platforms such as WeChat and Alipay, a senior central bank official said last month.

• Prince Charles, heir-to-the-British throne, will make an official visit to India next month with a focus on sustainable markets, climate change and social finance, his office said.


• Charles, 70, will arrive in New Delhi for the two-day visit on Wednesday, Nov. 13.


• It will be Charles’ 10th official visit to India. His last was as part of a joint tour with his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, to Brunei, India, Singapore, and Malaysia in November 2017.

• West Bengal governor Jagdeep Dhankhar along with his wife attended the Kali Puja at Mamata Banerjee’s residence and spent more than an hour chatting with the chief minister, members of the cabinet and guests. He also prayed before the idol of Kali and watched the puja.


• Though the enclosure set up outside Banerjee’s small single-story house at Kalighat in south Kolkata was out of bounds for the media, Dhankhar could be seen hugging Trinamool Congress (TMC) secretary-general and education minister Partha Chatterjee and exchanging pleasantries with him. • The excavations were performed at the state’s Gottiprolu that began in December, 2018.


• The ASI unearthed brick-built structures in varied shapes. The sizes of the bricks were common in the Satavahana/Ikshvaku period of the Krishna valley.


• Also, the team unearthed four-armed sculptures of Lord Vishnu. The sculpture belongs to the Pallava period according to the analysis of headgear and drapery.


• Also, a series of broken terracotta pipes were found. This suggests that the period had a good system of drainage.


• So far, the ASI has excavated about 10% of the site in the first round. The second round is set to begin in November or December 2019.

• A group of MPs from the European Union, ahead of its visit to Jammu and Kashmir, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said their visit "should give them a clear view of the development and governance priorities of the region".

• Two Indian Air Force (IAF) helicopters have successfully evacuated a civilian aircraft, which had recently crashed at the Kedarnath helipad at an altitude of 11,500 feet.


• Mi-17 V5 helicopters of Indian Air Force were tasked to undertake a very challenging task of evacuating a crashed aircraft of UT Air Private limited from high altitude region of Kedarnath," an IAF spokesperson said.


• The aircraft had crashed at the helipad near the Kedarnath shrine a few days back.

• National Testing Agency or NTA, the national level exam conducting body which organises competitive and eligibility exams, will organise next editions of Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test (GPAT) and Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) on February 3.


• The registration process for both the tests will begin on November 1 and will be concluded on November 30. GPAT 2020 and CMAT 2020 registrations can be done on the official websites, ntagpat.nic.in and ntacmat.nic.in, respectively.

• IIT Madras researchers have developed algorithms that enable novel applications for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Deep Learning to solve engineering problems.


• The researchers also plan to establish a startup to deploy their AISoftware called 'AISoft'. Through their startup, the researchers aim to develop solutions to engineering problems in varied fields such as in thermal management, semiconductors, automobile, aerospace and electronic cooling applications.

• Staff Selection Commission (SSC) announced the result for CGL 2018 Tier II exam on October 25, 2019.

• David Malpass, the World Bank President, said that the financing agency expects to continue with its $6 billion annual lending target for India.

• The Reserve Bank has imposed a penalty of Rs 35 lakh on Tamilnad Mercantile Bank for violating norms on frauds classification and notification. The central bank imposed the fine via an order.


• The bank has been penalized for "non-compliance with certain provisions of directions issued by RBI on frauds classification and reporting by commercial banks and select FIs directions 2016," the RBI said.

• SoftBank Group is reportedly in talks to invest in a burger-making robot startup, Creator, with its Vision Fund 2.


• It may also invest in e-pharmacy Alto Pharmacy and Bill Gates-backed lab-cultured meat startup Memphis Meats. SoftBank is reportedly in the process of raising money for Vision Fund 2, which is a successor to SoftBank's first $100-billion fund launched in 2017.
