• Chinese-Australian writer Yang Hengjun has been formally arrested on espionage charges in China after months of detention, Australia has confirmed.


• The Australian citizen has been held in Beijing since January under "harsh conditions", said the foreign ministry.


• Foreign Minister Marise Payne said Australia was "very concerned and disappointed" to learn of the arrest.


• "We have serious concerns for Dr. Yang's welfare, and about the conditions under which he is being been held," she said.

• Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has ruled out accepting a G7 offer of aid to fight fires in the Amazon rainforest unless he gets an apology from his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron.


• Mr. Bolsonaro said the French leader should apologize for insulting him personally by calling him a liar.


• Mr. Macron had accused him of "lying" about fighting climate change.

• The Bimal Jalan Committee, on reviewing the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) extant economic capital framework, has recommended the alignment of the financial year of RBI (July to June) with the fiscal year of the Government (April to March) from the financial year 2020-21.


• By doing so, the Committee reasoned that the RBI would be able to provide better estimates of the projected surplus transfers to the Government for the financial year for budgeting purposes.

• The governing body of Cricket activities in the Delhi state, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has decided to rename the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi as Arun Jaitley Stadium in the memory of the cricket body’s former president who passed away on August 24, 2019.


• The rechristening will take place on September12, 2019, at a function, which will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and will be graced by the presence of Home Minister Amit Shah and Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju.

• Debt-ridden DHFL said it appointed KK Mankeshwar & Co as its statutory auditor.


• This comes after the resignation of auditors Deloitte and Chaturvedi & Shah this month, reportedly due to unsatisfactory responses from DHFL to their queries related to fund deployment.

• Goa born KirtiChakra(peacetime gallantry award) awardee, Commander Noel Kelman, passed away at the age of 92 in Porvorim due to old age ailments.


• Kelman who was a founder member of the Goa Branch of the All India Anglo Indian Association, was awarded kirti chakra in 1962 for his valour in 1961 Goa liberation to oust Portuguese from the Anjadip island.
