• The United States will suspend all scheduled flights to Cuba except to its capital Havana, authorities said, as US President Donald Trump pushes to dismantle the rapprochement begun by his predecessor Barack Obama.

• U.S. and Chinese officials are "close to finalizing" some parts of a trade agreement after high-level telephone discussions, the U.S. Trade Representative's office said, adding that deputy-level talks would proceed "continuously."


• The USTR provided no details on the areas of progress.


• "They made headway on specific issues and the two sides are close to finalizing some sections of the agreement. Discussions will go on continuously at the deputy level, and the principals will have another call in the near future," a statement said.

• A Bangladesh MP was expelled from university after allegedly hiring as many as eight lookalikes to take exams in her place, according to a report.


• Tamanna Nusrat, of the ruling Awami League party, is accused of paying the lookalikes to pretend to be her in at least 13 examinations.

• External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today met with his counterparts from Kuwait and Bahrain on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit in Azerbaijan and discussed India's bilateral ties with the two Gulf countries.

• The Supreme Court agreed to examine the plea which raises questions about the laws on custody and guardianship of children in the country in the absence of shared parentage, and entrusting the custody of the child exclusively to one parent in case of separation of spouses.


• After Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Court that the matter needs to be examined, a Bench comprising Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, and Justices SA Bobde and S Abdul Nazeer issued a notice to the Centre seeking its response.


• The court was hearing a plea filed by Y Sulochana Rani, who hails from Andhra Pradesh, and is currently employed in London. The plea was filed by Advocate Kaleeswaram Raj.

• The Bahujan Samaj Party has blamed the ruling BJP for its debacle in Uttar Pradesh, saying it helped the Samajwadi Party win some seats.

• Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has declared the results of engineering services main exam that was conducted in the month of June, 2019.


• The personal interview was conducted in the month of September- October after which the merit list and final results of the qualifiers have been released.

• The Centre on Friday appointed 29 joint secretaries in different government departments as part of a major bureaucratic reshuffle effected by it.


• Of the total officers, thirteen are from Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the rest from other services like Indian Revenue Service (IRS), Indian Forest Service (IFoS) and Central Secretariat Service (CSS), among others.

• NASA will send a golf cart-sized robot to the moon in 2022 to search for deposits of water below the surface, an effort to evaluate the vital resource ahead of a planned human return to the moon in 2024 to possibly use it for astronauts to drink and to make rocket fuel, the U.S. space agency said.

• Former Gujarat Chief Minister Dilip Parikh passed away.


• He was 82 and took his last breath at a private hospital in Ahmedabad following a prolonged illness. He served as the 13th Chief Minister of Gujarat during 1997-98 when he was with Rashtriya Janata Party - RJP, floated by Shankersinh Vaghela.


• Parikh started his political career as a BJP MLA. An industrialist by profession, he also served as President of the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
