• People in the Republic of Ireland have voted overwhelmingly in favour of liberalising divorce laws, in a referendum held.


• The constitution currently states that spouses must be separated for four of the previous five years to divorce.


• But that clause will now be removed, allowing the Oireachtas (Irish parliament) to decide a new separation period before divorce is allowed.

• An international tribunal has ordered Russia to "immediately" release 24 Ukrainian sailors and three naval ships it seized off Crimea in November.


• Moscow says the sailors violated its maritime border near the peninsula which it seized from Ukraine in 2014.


• But the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea sided with Ukraine in the dispute, which has stoked tensions between the nations.

• Points to apex court verdict that it was unnecessary to intervene in the purchase.


• There is no question of an FIR, much less a CBI investigation, into the 36 Rafale aircraft purchase, the government told the Supreme Court on May [latex]25^{th}[/latex].

• The Election Commission is yet to receive country-wide data on the mandatory matching of Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) slips with the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) results of five random polling booths in each Assembly segment.


• “However, given that there are no adverse reports from any segment, presumably there has been a 100% tallying of the EVM votes with the slips. In the previous elections also, no discrepancy was reported in the matching,” said a senior Commission official.


• The slips of 20,625 VVPAT machines were counted in over 4,000 Assembly segments falling under the 542 Parliamentary constituencies, as per the Supreme Court directive.

• A total of 11 lawmakers have been elected to the Lok Sabha from Uttar Pradesh this time and by-elections will be held in their constituencies.


• The BJP had fielded four Uttar Pradesh Ministers and five legislators in the Lok Sabha battle. Two legislators from the Samajwadi Party and one each from the BSP and Apna Dal also contested the Lok Sabha elections.

• The new Lok Sabha has nine per cent more Members of Parliament (MPs) with criminal charges against them, according to a study conducted by National Election Watch (NEW) and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR), which are NGOs working for electoral and political reform.


• Of the total winners in 2019, 233 parliamentarians (43%) have declared criminal cases against them as compared to 185 (34%) in the Lok Sabha elected in 2014 and 162 (30 per cent) in 2009, say the findings based on the scrutiny of affidavits of 539 MPs.

• Revealing a worrying global trend, security researchers have found that malware files designed to steal credentials and money from users’ bank accounts rose to around 30,000 in the first quarter of 2019, up from 18,500 in the previous quarter, a growth of over 60 per cent.
