• Japan launched an unmanned spacecraft towards the International Space Station, the operator said, after a fire early this month delayed the mission.

• Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said that India had installed over 195 solar panels in the United Nations (UN) Headquarters as a mark of tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

• The Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) directions on the Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank is not a one-off event, though customers are worried.

• The government has instituted the highest civilian award for contribution to India's unity and integrity in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.


• The award, comprising a medal and a citation, would not be conferred posthumously except in very rare and highly deserving cases, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said in a statement.


• No monetary grant or cash reward would be attached to the award and not more than three awards would be given in a year, it said.


• The award would be announced on the occasion of National Unity Day the birth anniversary of Sardar Patel on October 31, the statement said.

• NASA successfully launched the RamanSat 2 miniature satellite designed by 17-year-old student Aabhaas Sikka on Monday night.


• The satellite was developed by Sikka during his internship with SPACE India with help from SPACE Group Founder and CMD Sachin Bahmba along with the company's research team. It is carrying equipment to measure the radiation from Sun and space.

• The Mangalyaan mission, which was initially meant to last six months, has completed five years of orbiting Mars and is likely to continue for some more time, says Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) chief K Sivan.


• In the last five years, the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), India's first interplanetary endeavour, helped India's space agency prepare a Martian Atlas based on the images provided by the orbiter, Sivan said.
