  • Mozambique reported scores more deaths from a cyclone and floods around southern Africa that have killed at least 732 people and left thousands in desperate need of help, many on rooftops and trees.

  • Cyclone Idai lashed the Mozambican port city of Beira with winds of up to 170 km per hour (105 miles per hour) last week, then moved inland to Zimbabwe and Malawi, swamping populations and devastating homes. Mozambique`s death toll rose to 417 from 242.

India extends Rs. 35.5 million financial grant to Nepal

  • India extended a financial grant of 35.5 million Nepalese rupees to Nepal for the construction of an educational campus to boost the learning environment of the students. The educational campus was jointly inaugurated by District Coordination Committee and Campus management committee on 22nd March 2019.

  • It was made under the Development Partnership Programme which is administered by the Development Administration Partnership division of the Ministry of External Affairs.

  • The building was constructed at Siddheshwar Education Public Campus in Ramechhap district. It consists of 12 class rooms, meeting hall, laboratory room and a library.

  • It will enhance the poor, needy and the marginalized students’ access to education in the district and the nearby areas.
Centre, state governments working to make India TB-free by 2025: PM

  • PM Narendra Modi has said that the Centre and the state governments are working together to make India TB-free by 2025, "five years before the global target of 2030".

  • On the World Tuberculosis Day, he added the government reaffirms its commitment towards a TB-free society. He said the Centre's efforts such as Ayushman Bharat are providing "assistance to TB patients".

Karnataka Bank reports Rs 13 cr fraud to RBI

  • The lender said in a BSE filing that The fraud was on account of "diversion of funds".

  • Government outreached its disinvestment target of Rs 80,000 crore for the current financial year (2018-19) by Rs 5,000 crore.

  • The disinvestment target has been fixed at Rs 90,000 crore for the next financial year (i.e. FY 2020).

  • Chiriboga was one of the executives arrested in 2015 amid a massive US-led crackdown on corruption in world football.

  • After finding him guilty, FIFA’s ethics judges banned Chiriboga from all football-related activities for life and fined him 1 million Swiss francs.
