• The UN has suspended work with Catholic charity Caritas in the Central African Republic (CAR) after it emerged that its country director was a convicted paedophile.


• The UN's humanitarian agency said there were "serious allegations of abuse against minors" in CAR by the charity's former director, Belgian priest Father Luk Delft.


• He has been removed from his post and is no longer in the CAR, Caritas says.

• Niger is changing its national anthem to remove references to former colonial power France almost 60 years after gaining independence.


• Minister of Cultural Renaissance, Assoumana Malam Issa, says the government wants to introduce a new anthem to serve as "a sort of war cry reaching into our patriotic core" - and he's asking people to submit their own ideas.


• Niger's current anthem; La Nigérienne, was written by Frenchman Maurice Albert Thiriet in 1961 and many in the country consider the song's lyrics deferential to France.

• US President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping both insisted they would resist pressure to give ground on a trade deal that Washington's leader said could be "very close."


• The comments from Trump and Xi came six weeks after the announcement of a "phase one" bargain, which appears no closer to becoming a reality as the two sides tussle over tariffs and China's future purchases of US farm exports.

• The Tamil minority in Sri Lanka will prefer losing presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa to be the main Opposition leader in place of former prime minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the main Tamil party TNA said.


• The Tamil National Alliance (TNA) is a political alliance in Sri Lanka that represents the country's Tamil community.

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said his ministry has set a target of $26 billion for aerospace, defence services and goods by 2025 under the Defence Production Policy and in that, approximately $10 billion is targeted for creating job opportunities for 20-30 lakh people.


• "Under the Defence Production Policy, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has set the target of $26 billion for aerospace, defence services and goods by 2025.

• President's Rule was revoked in Maharashtra at 5.47 am mere hours before the BJP's Devendra Fadnavis took oath as Chief Minister for a second term.


• The state had been placed under President's Rule on November 12 after last month's elections delivered a fractured mandate.


• In a brief three-line notification issued by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla this morning, President Ram Nath Kovind revoked President's Rule "in relation to the state of Maharashtra with effect from the 23rd day of November, 2019".

• The RBI on November 22 expanded the scope of Special Non-Resident Rupee Accounts by permitting non-residents to open such accounts for rupee denominated overseas borrowings, trade credit and trade invoicing for popularising cross-border transactions in the domestic currency.


• Any person resident outside India, having a business interest in India, can open a non-interest bearing Special Non-Resident Rupee Account (SNRR account) with a bank for bona fide transactions in rupees.

• First woman pilot of Indian Navy will join Naval operations in Kochi on December 2, 2019 two days before the Navy Day.


• The first woman pilot, Lieutenant Shivangi, will join naval operations on completion of operational training in Kochi on December 2, 2019.
