• The deadline for the withdrawal of Kurdish fighters from areas in northeastern Syria expires at 1900 GMT, a Turkish military source said, as part of a 120-hour suspension agreed between Ankara and Washington. "It started at 10 pm. so it finishes at 10 pm," the source said.


• Following the withdrawal, Turkey wants to set up a 120-kilometer "safe zone" between Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain, they added, saying this will then be extended to 444 kilometers.

• The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) filed a plea in the Supreme Court challenging the law which criminalises instant "triple talaq".


• The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019 makes "talaq-e-bidder" or any other similar form of talaq having the effect of instantaneous and irrevocable divorce pronounced by a Muslim husband void and illegal.

• India is unlikely to sign an agreement on the Kartarpur corridor with Pakistan tomorrow, government sources have said.


• They did not specify a definite date for inking the pact either, saying that the neighbouring country was yet to provide a concrete response in this regard.


• India and Pakistan had earlier fixed October 23 as the date for signing an agreement aimed at ensuring visa-free travel for Indian pilgrims to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib through the four-kilometer border corridor.

• Lawyers who graduated from recognised universities in 2016 and those who got provisional degree certificates till September 9 this year can now apply for the post of civil judge in Tamil Nadu, with the Madras High Court allowing their plea and directing TNSPC to open an online window for the purpose.


• The first bench, comprising Acting Chief Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice C Saravanan passed the interim order on a batch of petitions by fresh law graduates aspiring to apply for the post, for which the Tamil Nadu Public Service had issued a notification on September 9 this year.

• Wrestling legend Dadu Chougule died of a heart attack on Sunday in Kolhapur in Maharashtra, family members said. He was 73.


• According to kin, Chougule was admitted to a hospital for an asthmatic ailment. He suffered a heart attack around 2 pm and died, they said. He is survived by two sons.
