• The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a chargesheet against 10 people who were arrested from Delhi and Amroha in Uttar Pradesh last year for allegedly propagating the Islamic State ideology.

• The management of Reliance Foundation-backed Jio Institute has told an expert panel headed by former chief election commissioner N Gopalaswami that it may set up the proposed Institute of Eminence in Navi Mumbai and not in Karjat, near Mumbai, as had been originally planned, because of environmental obstacles.


• The possible new location was mentioned in its response to a request by the committee to file a report on the progress it has made towards establishing the institute, including towards the acquisition of land for its campus.


• The panel asked the institute to fill up a specially designed form that would serve as a status report.

• Bhoiwada police arrested a 32-year-old man from Mumbra for allegedly giving triple talaq to his wife in April after his in-laws failed to meet his demand for Rs 3-lakh dowry.


• Police said the accused, Amir Mukhtar Ahmad Momin, who runs a mobile shop in Bhiwandi, has been booked under the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Ordinance, which bans instant triple talaq.

• Taxi unions and the consumer forum locked horns over the ‘happy hour scheme’ suggested by the state-appointed four-member Khatua panel at a meeting in Mantralaya.


• Mumbai has around 45,000 black-and-yellow taxis. AL Quadros, leader of Mumbai Taximen’s Union, said they will never accept the ‘happy hour scheme’ – giving 15% discount in fares during the lean period from noon-4pm.


• Shirish Deshpande, president of the consumer group, said they want the government to implement the ‘happy hour’ discount, along with the telescopic fare, which will reduce fare for each km, with the increase in distance.


• “We are insisting on both these points as they are in the interest of trade,” he said.

• A robot named Bumble became the first Astrobee robot to fly under its own power in space. Astrobee is a free-flying robot system that will help researchers test new technologies in zero gravity and perform routine work alongside astronauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS).
