• On September 12, Boeing started putting out 30-second videos in which employees tout its planes' safety, hoping to reassure travelers about the 737 MAX that's been grounded worldwide since two crashes that killed 346 people.


• "Safety is at the core of our business. We have put hundreds of engineers to work to ensure that this airplane is 100 percent ready," says Jennifer Henderson, a chief test pilot for the 737, in one of the clips.


• "When the 737 MAX returns to service I will absolutely put my family on this airplane," she stressed.

• Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan fired off a fresh warning Saturday to “crush” Kurdish forces as both sides traded accusations of violating a US-brokered truce deal in northeastern Syria.


• The deal announced late is intended to halt a Turkish-led offensive against Kurdish forces launched on October 9, on condition they pull out of a “safe zone” on the Syrian side of the border.


• The offensive has killed dozens of civilians, mainly on the Kurdish side, and prompted hundreds of thousands to flee their homes in the latest humanitarian crisis of Syria’s eight-year civil war.

• As part of its goal to become a $5 trillion economy by 2024, India plans to spend $1.4 trillion on its infrastructure in the next five years, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.


• Addressing the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund in Washington, Ms. Sitharaman said a task force has been constituted in the finance ministry that will draw up a national infrastructure pipeline for the next five years.


• "As we envisage becoming a five trillion-dollar economy by 2024-25, our focus on creating world-class infrastructure has become even more resolute. If we spent $1.1 trillion on infrastructure in the last 10 years (2008-17), we now are going to invest about USD 1.4 trillion in the next five years," she said.

• Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal inaugurated 100 newly-constructed mohalla clinics. With this, the total number of mohalla clinics now stands at 302.


• Speaking during the inauguration, Kejriwal said that next month, 100 more mohalla clinics will come up and the AAP government plans to set up such health facility on every kilometre in the city.

• Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced the signing of 17 MoUs promoting and facilitating various business ventures in Goa.

• India expressed its disappointment over the lack of support to increase the quota structure of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).


• IMF quotas, which are the primary source of IMF funds, determine voting shares. Quotas are supposed to be reviewed every five years although these reviews can be delayed.


• India views "the lack of adequate support for a quota increase under the 15th GRQ (General Review of Quotas) as somewhat disappointing", Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said in her address to the annual meeting of the IMF. "We, however, consider this as a temporary setback.

• Passengers who travelled on the newly launched Tejas Express will be paid a compensation of Rs. 250 each as the train was delayed for about two hours in both the directions.


• There were about 451 passengers, who boarded the train from Lucknow, and another about 500 who took the train from New Delhi.


• Chief Regional Manager (CRM), IRCTC, Lucknow, Ashwini Srivastava, said, "We have sent a link to all the passengers on their mobile phone clicking on which they can claim compensation. Those who do so will get them paid."

• The State Bank of India's (SBI) earnings are set to revive amid uncertain macros on the back of steady operating performance at pre-provisioning operating level, recoveries from large National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) resolutions and normalisation in credit cost, according to a broking firm.


• The SBI posted Rs. 2,312 crore profit in the first quarter of FY20 as provisionings declined 11 percent year-on-year.

• HDFC Bank reported a 26.8% rise in its net profit to ₹6,345 crore in the quarter ended September from ₹5,006 crore in the year-ago period.


• However, the private lender's provisions and contingencies increased 48% year-on-year to ₹2,700 crore in the quarter, of which ₹2,038 crore were loan loss provisions. The bank's quarterly income rose 19.6% to ₹33,755 crore.

• The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of the Government of India notified that Ahmedabad city Police Commissioner Anup Kumar Singh, aged 59, was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the National Security Guard (NSG) succeeding Sudeep Lakhtakia. He is the 1985-batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Gujarat cadre. The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
