• Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has passed a resolution to declare the birth anniversary of Dogra monarch Maharaja Hari Singh on September 23 as State holiday, days after the State paid tributes to people killed during his rule in 1931 in the Valley.


• Jammu-based BJP corporator Narotam Sharma moved the resolution on Thursday. It was passed without any opposition from the Congress or independent candidates in the general house meeting, where out of 75 corporators BJP has 43 members.

• Minority organisations in Assam apprehend a large-scale exclusion from the final National Register of Citizens (NRC) to be published on July 31. They have attributed it to the alleged pressure on officers handling the vetting process to be strict in accepting certain documents issued in other States, including in the northeastern region.

• The government is considering extending Parliament’s ongoing session by five working days, two persons aware of developments said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had hinted as much at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) parliamentary party meeting last Tuesday.


• The current session, which has been “productive” for the treasury benches in that several important bills were cleared, started on June 17 and is scheduled to end on July 26. If extended, the session will continue till August 2.

• Private sector lender RBL Bank reported a near 41 per cent increase in net profit for the first quarter of the fiscal, led by strong growth in its interest income and stable asset quality.


• The bank’s net profit rose 40.5 per cent to ₹267.05 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2019, against ₹190.04 crore in the same period a year ago.

• Indian Foreign Service officer Vivek Kumar was today appointed as Private Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. An official order said, the decison was taken by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, headed by the Prime Minister.


• Mr. Kumar, a 2004 batch IFS officer, is currently working as the Director in the Prime Minister's Office. Mr. Kumar's appointment will come into effect from the day of the assumption of charge.

• Founder of popular South Indian food chain Saravana Bhavan, P Rajagopal, who convicted in a murder case passed away due to a Heart attack in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was 72.


• He had surrendered before a local court to serve a life sentence in a murder case and had been shifted to Vijaya Hospital after the Madras High Court passed an interim order.
