• A Delhi court on Saturday deferred taking cognisance of the charge sheet against former JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar and others in a case of allegedly shouting anti-India slogans on the JNU campus in 2016.


• Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat refused to take cognisance the probe report stating that the Delhi police filed it without sanction for prosecution. He adjourned the matter to February 6 after the probe agency said that it would get the required sanction within ten days.

• Aparna Kumar has become the first woman IPS DIG and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officer to successfully complete the South Pole expedition.


• Kumar has successfully reached the South Pole after covering 111 kilometres of walking on already scaled the top six mountain peaks of the six continents of the globe.


• Kumar reached the South Pole on January 13 where she unfurled the National and ITBP flags.

• Prime Minister of India,Shri Narendra Modi launched the Country’s First National Museum of Indian Cinema in Mumbai,Maharashtra, that seeks to portray over a century-old journey of movies in India.


• The state-of-the-art museum has been built at a cost of Rs 140.61 crore and is housed in two buildings – the New Museum Building and the 19th century historic palace Gulshan Mahal – in the Films Division campus in Mumbai.


• The National Museum of Indian Cinema was build under the guidance by the Museum Advisory Committee headed by noted film maker Shyam Benegal. An innovation Committee headed by lyricist Prasoon Joshi was also constituted to provide an upgrade to NMIC.

• From a high of 39,090 in 2010-11 to a low of 16,550 in 2016-17, there has been a steady downward spiral of Indian students coming to the UK, but for the first time in recent years, the number is on the upswing: 19,750 in 2017-18, including first-year students.

• After a botched attempt to sell the government’s majority stake in Air India, the airline has invited bids for its iconic building at Nariman Point in Mumbai from “state governments and government entities only” for sale of leasehold rights of the land and the building. • Sweden ended a four-month political vacuum when lawmakers elected 61 years old Swedish Social Democratic Party’s leader Stefan Lofven as the Prime Minister of Sweden for a second term.
