SC to hear contempt petition against Chennai-based man tomorrow

  • The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear on September 3 a contempt petition filed by senior advocate Rajeev Dhavan against a Chennai-based man for allegedly intimidating him for representing the Muslim side in the Ayodhya appeals.

  • Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi consented to list the petition after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Mr. Dhavan, said his client has been at the receiving end of letters and WhatsApp messages which are of a threatening nature.

  • She was speaking at a press conference on the sidelines of her consultations with the automobile industry in Chennai.

  • Asked for a response to Dr. Singh’s comments, Ms. Sitharaman said: “I don't have a comment. He has made his comment and I heard it with my ears.”

  • Federal Bank has said savings deposits with the lender that are less than ₹2 lakh balance will earn interest consistent with the repo rate (external benchmark rate) announced by the Reserve Bank of India at regular intervals.

  • At the current repo rate, balances up to ₹1 lakh in SB accounts will earn annual interest of 3.5 per cent.

  • Savings deposit balance above ₹1 lakh and less than ₹2 lakh will be paid interest at 3.25 per cent annually.

India clinched SAFF U-15 Championship 2019 title for the 3rd time by beating Nepal

  • The India Under-15 team has defeated Nepal with7-0 score in the final of the SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) U-15 Championship 2019 held in Kalyani Stadium, West Bengal from August 21 – 31, 2019.

  • This victory means that India has now become the most successful team in the history of the tournament as it won the title for the 3rd time.

  • Earlier, India won the trophy in 2013 and 2017 in Nepal.

Former Kalahandi king of Odisha UditPratapDeo passed away

  • UditPratapDeo, the Former king of Kalahandi which was a princely state of Odisha, but now a district, has passed away in a private hospital at the age of 71 on September 2, 2019.

  • The former king was coronated as the 32nd king of Kalahandi in 2001. He served as a lawmaker in the Odisha assembly while serving the Swatantra party in 1974 and later joined BJP(Bharatiya Janata Party) along with his wife, queen Padma Manjari Devi.
