• The Indian High Commission in New Zealand has confirmed deaths of five Indian nationals in the terror attack on two mosques in New Zealand's Christchurch.


• The deceased include Ozair Kadir, Vadodara's father-son duo of Asif Vora and Ramiz Vora, Ahmedabad's Maheboob Khokhar and Kerala's Ansi Alibava. The death toll rose to 50, after police found another body.

• A Christchurch gun shop acknowledged selling guns online to the 28-year-old white supremacist accused of killing 50 people in mosque shootings that have upturned New Zealand's reputation as among the world's most tolerant and safe nations.


• At a news conference, Gun City owner David Tipple said the store sold four guns and ammunition to Brenton Harrison Tarrant through a "police-verified online mail order process."

• Pakistan foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi is visiting China to participate in a strategic dialogue and hold talks with the top Chinese leadership on a range of issues, including the multi-billion CPEC project, to strengthen the bilateral ties.


• The announcement of the four-day visit comes days after China for the fourth time blocked a bid in the United Nations (UN) Security Council to designate chief of Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group Masood Azhar as a "global terrorist" by putting a technical hold on the proposal, a move India termed as disappointing.


• The proposal to designate Azhar under the 1267 al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council was moved by France, the UK and the US on [latex]27^{th}[/latex] February, days after the Pulwama terror attack which killed forty Indian soldiers.

• The BJP announced its list of 177 candidates contesting from Andhra Pradesh and Arunachal Pradesh for Assembly elections.


• The party has named its candidates for 123 of 175 seats in Andhra Pradesh Assembly and for 54 of 60 seats in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has been fielded from Mukto constituency.

• Aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya, nuclear submarine Chakra, 60 ships and nearly 80 aircraft were put on operational deployment by the Indian Navy in the North Arabian sea in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the Pulwama terror attack.


• They said the naval assets were part of a mega exercise but they transited from the area of the drill for operational deployment soon after the [latex]14^{th}[/latex] February Pulwama terror attack that increased tensions between Pakistan and India.

• Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman accused the Mamata Banerjee government in West Bengal of being a "clone" of the previous Left Front regime, and alleged that she was following the same "repressive" measures adopted by her predecessors.


• Likening her with Goddess Durga, she said Banerjee fought the "demons" of the 34-year-long Left Front government in the state, and also atrocities by her own workers when she was in the Congress.

• 29-year-old Indian athlete from Kerala, K.T. Irfan has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics as he finished fourth in the men’s 20 kilometer category at the Asian Race Walking Championships in Nomi, Japan.

• Astronomers have discovered 83 quasars powered by supermassive black holes 13 billion light-years away from the Earth, from a time when the universe was less than 10% of its present age.


• The finding, published in the Astrophysical Journal, increases the number of black holes known at that epoch (a particular period of time in history or a person’s life) considerably, and reveals, for the first time, how common they are early in the universe’s history.

• Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar passed away aged 63, a year after being diagnosed with a pancreatic ailment.


• He had been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, Delhi and New York since February 2018. Parrikar had first become Goa CM in 2000 and had also served as Defence Minister of India from 2014 to 2017.
