• Sri Lanka's former wartime defence secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa has been elected president, his spokesman said following a fiercely fought election seven months after terror attacks killed 269 people.


• The 70-year-old retired lieutenant colonel had a 48.2 percent share of the vote with close to three million ballots counted but results from Sinhalese-majority regions the Rajapaksas' core support base were expected to push this above 50 percent.


• "We got between 53 to 54 percent," his spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella told AFP.


• "It is a clear win. We envisaged it. We are very happy that Gota will be the next president. He will be sworn in tomorrow or the day after," Rambukwella said.

• Soldiers from the Chinese People's Liberation Army briefly left their Hong Kong barracks to help the clean-up after a week of violence and disruption caused by pro-democracy protests, a rare and highly symbolic movement in a city lurching deeper into crisis.


• The action saw scores soldiers from the garrison, which is confined to the barracks under Hong Kong's mini-constitution, with crewcuts and identical gym kits conduct a lightning-quick removal of bricks and debris near their base.

• US President Donald Trump began his annual physical exam on Saturday, visiting the doctor several months ahead of schedule in anticipation of the busy 2020 election season, his spokeswoman said.


• The 73-year-old last saw the doctor for a routine examination in February, when presidential physician Sean Conley declared Trump to be in "very good health."


• Trump, who has confounded health experts with his penchant for junk food and avoidance of strenuous exercise, weighed 243 pounds (110 kg), the report at that time said.

• The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) held a brainstorming session with different Muslim parties over the Supreme Court verdict in the Ayodhya case, ahead of a crucial meeting to decide whether to go for a review of the top court's judgement.


• The parties met All India Muslim Personal Law Board general secretary Maulana Wali Rahmani and discussed the Ayodhya issue, Zafaryab Jilani, who is secretary of the board, said.


• They said that the Supreme Court decision is "not understandable" and so there is a need to go for a review, Mr. Jilani said.

• Amidst the political stalemate in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik said that a 21-member meeting of his party, with Sharad Pawar at its helm, will be held in Pune.


• "Party chief Sharad Pawar has called a meeting of the core committee of NCP leaders tomorrow at 4 pm in Pune. It will be 21 members meeting under the chairmanship of Sharad Pawarji," Mr. Malik told news agency ANI.

• Months after University Grants Commission (UGC) notified an increase in the fellowship amount of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Senior Research Fellowship (SRF), the Commission has now increased the fellowship amount for scholarships awarded to SC, OBC and Minorities.


• In a notice dated November 7th, the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment and Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India, has notified an increase in the fellowship amount for three Fellowships - National Fellowship for SCs (NFSC), National Fellowship for OBCs (NFOBC), and Maulana Azad National Fellowship (MANF).

• Tomas Berdych confirmed on Saturday at the ATP Finals in London that he was retiring 17 years after turning professional.


• The Czech world number 103 won 13 titles, reaching a career-high of fourth in the rankings in 2015. Berdych, 34, was a top-10 player from July 2010 until October 2016 but has struggled with a back injury over the past two seasons.

• Anil Ambani has resigned as director of the bankrupt Reliance Communications (RComm), thus ceasing to be the chairman of the mobile phone company he had led since 2006.


• “Reliance Communications has been admitted under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code since May 15, 2018.


• The resolution professional has been in control of the company and the board has been superseded,” Ambani said in his resignation letter dated November 15 to the board of directors of RCom and to Ashish Nanavaty, the resolution professional from Deloitte running the telco’s insolvency process.
