• The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, on Friday approved indigenous development of ammunition for the Army’s T-72 and T-90 tanks worth approximately ₹2,000 crores, which would enhance the enemy armour penetration capability.

• Switzerland extended its support to India to strengthen its fight against terrorism in all its manifestations as President Ram Nath Kovind held talks with his Swiss counterpart Ueli Maurer and conveyed to him that India has been a victim of state sponsored terrorism for decades.

• Canara Bank’s board of directors, gave the in-principle approval for amalgamation of the bank with Syndicate Bank.


• The in-principle approval for amalgamation of the two public sector banks (PSBs) is as advised by the Alternative Mechanism of Government of India (GoI) to commence the process of amalgamation, subject to applicable approvals, the bank said in a stock exchange notice.

• To address gaps in credit delivery to the agriculture sector, a Reserve Bank of India panel has recommended suitable measures, including the setting up of a credit guarantee scheme jointly by the Centre and States, upping the target for banks to lend to small and marginal farmers (SMFs), and avoiding loan waivers.


• Underscoring that there is no guarantee scheme available to banks to cover the default risk of borrowers, the central bank’s internal working group (IWG) to review agriculture credit suggested that the Government of India, in partnership with State governments, should set up a credit guarantee fund for the agriculture sector.

• Bob Iger, the long-time Disney CEO, has resigned from Apple's board of directors. Apple made the announcement in an SEC filing, where it revealed that Iger stepped down on September 10th which happens to be the day the company shared launch details for Apple TV+, its upcoming video streaming service.


• Disney is, of course, getting ready to debut a streaming service of its own, Disney+, on November 12th for $6.99 a month in the US, Canada and the Netherlands. Apple TV+, meanwhile, will arrive on November 1st for $4.99 per month in over 100 countries.

• Microsoft Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella’s father and former IAS officer BN Yugandhar passed away hereafter brief illness. He was 80.


• Bukkapuram Nadella Yugandhar, a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer who served in the Prime Minister’s Office and the Planning Commission, breathed his last at his residence in Banjara Hills here, family sources said.


• It was immediately not clear as to when Yugandhar will be cremated and if Satyana Nadella will attend the last rites.
