India Expresses Concern At UN Over Terrorism Emanating From Pakistan

  • A senior Indian diplomat met UN human rights chief Michelle Bachelet in Geneva and conveyed India's concerns on the threat posed by cross border terrorism emanating from Pakistan.

  • Secretary (East) in the External Affairs Ministry Vijay Thakur Singh also briefed Ms. Bachelet "on the steps taken towards the gradual return to normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir", MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.

  • During her meeting with the UNHR High Commissioner, Ms. Singh "conveyed India's concerns on the threat posed by cross border terrorism emanating from Pakistan", he said.

  • Speaking at the 42nd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), Ms. Singh hit out at Pakistan's "malicious" campaign on the Kashmir issue and condemned "state-sponsored terrorism".
India Building Its Own Supercomputers, Says Centre

  • India is building supercomputers instead of procuring them from foreign countries, Department of Science and Technology Secretary Ashutosh Sharma said.

  • Two computers are already functional at IIT-BHU and IIT-Kharagpur (1.6 petaflops), while the third will be assembled at the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Pune by the end of the week.

  • In an interaction with reporters in Delhi, Mr. Sharma said the project is worth Rs. 4,500 crore and it is being implemented in three phases.

  • Under phase one, the initial plan was to buy three computers and build three. However the purchase was delayed, leading to an escalation in cost which prompted the DST to go for the "build" model with greater integration and focus on indigenization, a senior scientist said.

  • “What I can tell you is that in Bangkok last weekend, all ministers including India reiterated their commitment to concluding the negotiations in full by the time of the leaders summit in November,” negotiator James Baxter said, referring to an RCEP trade ministers’ meeting held in Thailand on September 8, attended by Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal.

  • The fare for the Mumbai- Ahmedabad bullet train would be around Rs 3,000, an official of the National High Speed Rail Corporation Ltd (NHSRCL) said.

  • Of the total 1,380 hectares of land required for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed rail corridor, commonly known as the bullet train project, so far 622 hectares of land, which comes to around 45 percent, has been acquired, the official said.

  • The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) had declared the result of Constable (GD) in CAPFs, NIA, SSF and Rifleman (GD) in Assam Rifles Examination 2018 in June in which 534052 candidates (Female: 68420 and Male: 465632) were shortlisted for Physical Efficiency Test (PET)/Physical Standard Test (PST).

  • Bank of Baroda (BoB) has put the erstwhile Dena Bank’s headquarters located in Mumbai’s prime business hub of Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) on sale via e-auction. It has set a reserve price of ₹530 crore for the sale.

RBI enables banks to lend more to customers

  • Banks will be able to lend more to customers for buying consumer products such as mobile phones, home appliances, two-wheelers, and three-wheelers, with the RBI cutting the risk weight for consumer credit, including personal loans.

  • While credit card receivables have been excluded, what this cut means is that banks can offer consumer loans by setting aside relatively lesser capital. The RBI has cut the risk weight to 100 per cent from 125 per cent.
