• US President Donald Trump will delay a planned tariff hike on $250bn (£202.8bn) of Chinese goods as a "gesture of good will".


• In a tweet, Mr. Trump said a 5% increase to duties scheduled for 1 October will be postponed for two weeks.


• He said the delay had been requested by China, and also follows a move by Beijing to scrap some US tariffs.


• It comes as the two sides prepare to hold fresh talks aimed at resolving their long-running trade dispute.


• Last month, the US said it would increase the tariff rates on all Chinese goods, which included raising a 25% tax on $250bn of Chinese imports to 30%.

• US President Donald Trump said that John Bolton, dismissed a day earlier as national security adviser, had been a "disaster" on North Korea policy, "out of line" on Venezuela, and did not get along with important administration officials.


• Trump said Bolton had made mistakes, including offending North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un by demanding that he follow a "Libyan model" and hand over all his nuclear weapons.


• "We were set back very badly when John Bolton talked about the Libyan model what a disaster," Trump told reporters at the White House.


• "He's using that to make a deal with North Korea? And I don't blame Kim Jong Un for what he said after that, and he wanted nothing to do with John Bolton.


• And that's not a question of being tough. That's a question of being not smart to say something like that."

• UN chief Antonio Guterres warned that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to annex a key part of the occupied West Bank would violate international law.


• "Such steps, if implemented, would constitute a serious violation of international law," Guterres' spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.


• "They would be devastating to the potential of reviving negotiations and regional peace, while severely undermining the viability of the two-state solution," he said.


• Netanyahu's controversial pledge involves extending Israel's sovereignty over the Jordan Valley and the northern Dead Sea, which account for one-third of the West Bank if he wins next week's elections.

• Some 2,500 people are unaccounted for in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian, the archipelago's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said.


• NEMA spokesman Carl Smith told reporters that some of the missing people may eventually be located.


• "At this point, there are approximately 2,500 individuals registered on the Bahamian government register (of missing people)," Smith said.


• "This list has not yet been checked against government records of who are staying in shelters or who have been evacuated," he said.


• "Some individuals who have been evacuated from Abaco and Grand Bahama have not yet registered with social services," Smith said. "As we are able to cross-reference our data sets we will be able to inform family members and reunite survivors with loved ones."

• Two US lawmakers have expressed concerns over the situation in Kashmir, and urged US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to convince India to immediately end the communication blockade and release those who have been detained.

• A standoff between Indian and Chinese soldiers in eastern Ladakh that lasted all day on Wednesday has been resolved through delegation-level talks, Army sources said.


• Indian soldiers were patrolling at the northern bank of Pangong lake when they were stopped by Chinese soldiers, according to a report in The Times of India.


• Two-thirds of the lake in the high-altitude region that extends from Tibet to Ladakh is controlled by China.

• Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced a series of schemes for voters, ranging from entrepreneurs to watchmen and sanitation workers, ahead of the state assembly elections.


• Mr. Khattar launched two insurance schemes for the 3.86 lakh registered small and medium traders in the state.


• While small and medium traders will be insured for up to Rs. 5 lakh, entrepreneurs will be eligible for compensation ranging anywhere between Rs. 5 lakh and Rs. 25 lakh depending on the turnover.

• The Defence Research Development Organization (DRDO) handed over the second airborne warning plane, Netra, to the Indian Air Force.


• The indigenously-built aircraft was handed over to Western Air Command chief, Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar, at the Bathinda Air Base in Punjab.


• The Netra, an Airborne Early Warning, and Control (AEWC) aircraft had played a stellar role during the Balakot airstrikes that had been carried out by the IAF in February this year.


• It provided surveillance and radar coverage to the five Mirage jets that bombed terror launch pads in Balakot in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan.

• The Supreme Court has asked the Director General of Competition Commission of India (CCI) to complete a probe into the allegations of ''predatory pricing'' against Uber India Systems Pvt Ltd within six months.


• A bench of Justice RF Nariman and Justice Surya Kant dismissed the appeal of Uber challenging a 2016 order of the appellate tribunal directing Director General of CCI to investigate the allegations of predatory pricing made by Meru Cabs.


• "The Director-General is requested to complete an investigation within a period of six months from today (September 3)," the bench said in its order.

• The Income Tax Department’s decision last month to increase the monetary limit for the cases below which it could not appeal the court’s decision has somewhat backfired — it is now detecting a lot of organised tax evasions, specifically designed to fall below that threshold.


• The Department has issued a circular saying it would file special appeals in cases falling below the threshold if it feels there is evidence of deliberate tax avoidance, an official in the Finance Ministry told The Hindu.

• Economic ties between India and Poland will receive a boost with the beginning of direct flights from September 12.


• According to Polish sources, the flight will be operated by LOT Polish Airlines and the first flight will fly Deputy Foreign Minister of Poland Marcin Przydacz to India.


• The direct flight will connect New Delhi with Warsaw and will operate five times a week.


• The visit of the Minister comes weeks after the visit of External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar to Warsaw.


• Mr. Przydacz is expected to meet Minister of Civil Aviation Hardeep Singh Puri and also T.S. Tirumurti, Secretary of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of External Affairs.

• Direct admission to Diploma in Elementary Education (DElEd) course for 2019-20 academic session will take place between September 12 and 16 as over 1 lakh seats in different colleges across the state have been lying vacant since the regular admission process got over on August 30, said an official familiar with the development.

• Andhra Pradesh government will introduce English medium from Class 1 to Class 8 from the next academic year and the necessary training will be imparted to teachers.


• During a review meeting on education, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said nearly 70,000 teachers would be trained for teaching in English medium in the District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs).


• He said that the vacant jobs for the post of teachers would be filled up in January every year and the teacher-student ratio would be maintained at all times.


• Environment, Climate Change and Road Safety would also be included in the curriculum.

• The University Grants Commission (UGC) will soon announce the first batch of mentor institutions under its 'Paramarsh' scheme, an official said.


• As part of the scheme that aims to improve the quality standards in the higher education system, top institutions will mentor five non-accredited institutes to secure the National Assessment and Accreditation (NAAC) grade certification.


• "The UGC has received 167 proposals from the higher educational institutions that have expressed their interest to mentor non-accredited ones to secure the NAAC grade.


• Apart from these, we have received applications from over 700 higher education institutions that want to be mentored," a UGC official here told IANS.

• Astronomers have for the first time discovered water in the atmosphere of a planet orbiting within the habitable zone of a distant star.


• The finding makes the world - which is called K2-18b - a plausible candidate in the search for alien life.


• Within 10 years, new space telescopes might be able to determine whether K2-18b's atmosphere contains gases that could be produced by living organisms.


• Details were published in the scientific journal Nature Astronomy.


• The lead scientist, Prof Giovanna Tinetti of University College London (UCL) described the discovery as "mind-blowing".

• Switzerland born famous documentary Photographer Robert Frank passed away at the age of 94 in Nova Scotia, Canada.


• He rose to fame by his landmark book “The Americans” and for his 20th century photographs.


• Frank was born on November 9, 1924 in Zurich, Switzerland, and worked as a photo assistant and later moved to the United States(US) after the Second World War.


• He produced 28,000 images compressed down to 83 for “the Americans” which rewrote photography rules.
