• Schools closed across Washington state and the Legislature cancelled all hearings with winter snowstorms pummeling the Northwest again as a larger weather system wreaked havoc in the region and even brought snow to Hawaii.

• U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is in Hungary on the first leg of a five-nation European tour during which he will raise concerns about China and Russia's growing influence in Central Europe.


• Pompeo was meeting in Budapest with Hungary's nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban and other senior officials to stress the importance of promoting democracy and the rule of law. The U.S. sees those as key to countering Russian and Chinese efforts to pull Hungary and other countries in the region away from the West and sow division in the European Union and NATO.

• A British departure from the European Union without a deal could put 600,000 jobs around the world at risk, with Germany the hardest hit.


• Researchers at the IWH institute in Halle, eastern Germany, examined what would happen if UK imports from the remaining EU fell 25 percent after Brexit.


• They reckoned that some 103,000 jobs would be under threat in Europe's largest economy Germany and 50,000 in France.

• 25.25 lakh candidates,out of the 37.32 lakh (aprrox.), have been trained under the Short-Term Training (STT)of the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojna (PMKVY). Similarly, 11.27 lakhunder Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) and 0.8 lakh under Special Project in various sectors across India.


• ‘Skill Loan Mission’ has been launched by the Government to support youth by providing loan facility to individuals who wish to enrol for the skill development courses, as per the Skill Loan eligibility criteria.


• All the member banks of the Indian Banking Association (IBA) and other banking and financial institutions, including Micro Finance Institutions, regulated by the Reserve bank of India (RBI) are applicable for the Skill Loan Scheme.


• The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship’s lead bank, ‘Bank of India’ is the first bank to notify and implement the scheme.


• Loans are available in the range of Rs 5000 to Rs 15,000.


• In the financial year 2017-18, total amount of Rs 29.06 crore was disbursed against 3551 accounts, and during 2018-19 (till Dec 18), Rs 19.46 crore against 2429 accounts.

• Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal inaugurated Cremica Mega Food Park Pvt Ltd in Village Singhain, Una District of Himachal Pradesh. This is the first Mega Food Park operationalized in the State of Himachal Pradesh.


• This Mega Food Park has been set up in 52.40 acre of land at a cost of Rs. 107.34 crore.


• The park have a common administrative building for office and other uses at Solan, Mandi, and Kangra.


• Ministry of Food Processing Industries implemented Mega Food Park Scheme in the country, to give a major boost to the food processing sector by adding value and reducing food wastage.

• RBI restructuring package for small businesses will help recast Rs 1 lakh crore of loans to 7 lakh MSME s account holders.

• The Income Tax Department said it has busted three groups of hawala operators who were running money laundering racket worth around ₹20,000 crore in New Delhi.

• 19-year-old Corentin Moutet of France defeated Andrew Harris of Australia in the singles final on Sunday, and won the title in Chennai Open ATP Challenger tennis tournament.


• Moutet beat Harris 6-3, 6-3 in the singles final.
