• Chinese President Xi Jinping left for India this morning for the second informal meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.


• He will arrive in Chennai this afternoon, shortly after which he will visit the coastal town of Mahabalipuram or Mamallapuram.


• President Xi will meet PM Modi and hold talks on a host of issues in a relaxed atmosphere at the historic tourist town of Mahabalipuram. He will also be given a guided tour of the over 1300-year-old monuments.

• Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who arrived in Delhi from France night, said that seven Rafale fighter jets will arrive in India by April or May next year.


• The Defence Minister was in France for the official handover of the first Rafale aircraft.


• "Seven Rafale jets will arrive in India by April or May. The aircraft is capable of reaching up to the speed of 1800 kmph. I flew in a Rafale jet at the speed of 1,300 kmph. The credit for the successful acquisition of the jets goes to Prime Minister Narendra Modi," Rajnath Singh said.

• The government has reduced the e-Tourist visa fees for foreign nationals for one-year to half -- from $80 to $40. Whereas, the fee for a five-year e-Tourist visa would be $80.


• Meanwhile, during the April to June period, the fee for a 30-day e-Tourist Visa has been further reduced from $25 to $10.

• The Civil Aviation Ministry has approved Alliance Air plan to launch foreign operations by starting flights to Sri Lanka even as the airline’s parent Air India remains on top of the government’s disinvestment agenda.


• The move has triggered speculation among Air India employees that the government may continue in the airline business by not selling Alliance Air.


• This runs counter to the government’s often repeated argument that “the government has no business to be in the airline business.”

• SEBA or Board of Secondary Education, Assam, will release the Assam TET admit card soon. According to reports, the TET admit card for the Assam Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), which is scheduled to be held in November, will be released in the second week of October.


• Earlier, Assam TET was scheduled on October 20 but now it will be conducted on November 10, 2019. The Assam TET admit card will be released at smbform.in/TET_2019/?r, the official portal of the examination.

• The Delhi University Teachers' Association condemned the signing of tripartite agreement between the HRD Ministry, DU and UGC, calling it a step towards privatisation.


• The tripartite memorandum of understanding (MoU) requires universities to continuously increase the internal (self-generated) financial resource through fee hike, shift to revenue earning commercial courses, engagement with other commercial activities and manage greater part of their research activities through extramural funding, the teachers' body said.

• Private sector lender IndusInd Bank ’s net profit jumped by more than 50 per cent in the second quarter of the fiscal with steady growth in interest income. However, the bank’s asset quality weakened.


• IndusInd Bank posted a net profit of ₹1,383.37 crore for the July to September quarter this fiscal, which was a 50.3 per cent increase from ₹920.25 crore in the same period a year ago.


• The bank’s total income grew by 31.4 per cent to ₹8,877.02 crore in the quarter ended September 30 against ₹6,755.37 crore a year ago.

• Virat Kohli has become the first Indian player and second overall to smash 40 international hundreds as captain.


• Kohli achieved the feat after reaching the three-figure mark off 173 deliveries against South Africa in the second Test.

• The UK government has decided to issue a commemorative coin to mark the 150th birthday anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, said Britain’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Sajid Javid.
