• The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) Raising Day is observed every year on 10 March. The CISF was set up in 1969 under an act of the Parliament of India.


• It works under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and it’s headquarter is at New Delhi.


• This organisation works for sea ways, airways and some of the major installations in India. There are some reserved battalions in the CISF which work with the state police to protect law and orders.

• US State Secretary Mike Pompeo met the UK's National Security Adviser Mark Sedwill to discuss the current situation between India and Pakistan and the efforts to reduce tensions between the countries.


• Both the US and the UK had expressed their concerns over the tensions and called for restraint on both sides to avoid further escalation.

• American talent agency Endeavor has returned a $400-million investment to the Saudi Arabian government over the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, according to The New York Times (NYT).


• "The deal was meant to finance Endeavor's growth, while diversifying Saudi Arabia's economy via the talent agency's work in sports, events, modelling and television and film production".

• Idukki’s The Marayoor Jaggery, the traditional and handmade product from Idukki district of Kerala received the Geographical Indication (GI) tag from the Central Government.

• Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat launched the Mukhyamantri Anchal Amrit Yojana in Dehradun, under which 2.5 lakh children at 20,000 Anganwadi kendras in the state will be given 100 ml milk twice a week for free.


• Flavoured, sweet, skimmed milk powder will be made available to the 20,000 Anganwadi kendras across the state under the Amrit Yojana.

• The CBI has filed an application in the Delhi High Court for taking on record additional submission in the anticipatory bail plea of former Union Minister P Chidambaram in the INX media case.


• The agency added that it wanted to file additional submission in the "larger interest of justice". The plea is set to be heard on March 11.

• The Mizoram Liquor Prohibition Bill, 2019 was approved by the Mizoram Cabinet on 9th March 2019. The approval meeting was headed by the Chief Minister of Mizoram Zoramthanga.
This bill will be introduced in the state Assembly during the Budget session which begins on March 20, 2019.

• Earlier, liquor was completely prohibited in Mizoram from 1997 to January 2015 under the Mizoram Liquor Total Prohibition Act.


• From March 2015, the Lal Thanwala government allowed re-opening of wine shops in the state.

• United Bank of India has signed a bancassurance deal with private life insurer HDFC Life Insurance Company. Through this partnership, United Bank’s customers will be able to take advantage of HDFC Life’s expertise in life insurance products, distribution and customer service.


• The corporate-agency partnership is significant as United Bank undertook a rigorous selection process and evaluated 18 private life insurers to finally select HDFC Life.

• The Reserve Bank relaxed norms for white label ATM (WLA) operators and allowed them to buy wholesale cash directly from the central bank to enhance the viability of white label ATMs (WLAs).


• It has been decided to allow them to buy wholesale cash, above a threshold of 1 lakh pieces (and in multiples thereof) of any denomination, directly from the Reserve Bank and currency chests against full payment.


• The RBI also permitted WLA operators to source cash from any bank, including cooperatives and regional rural banks. WLAs are owned and operated by non-bank entities on behalf of the banks.


• RBI has also allowed WLA operators to display advertisements pertaining to non-financial products or services anywhere within the WLA premises, including the ATM screen, except the main signboard.


• Banks can issue co-branded ATM cards in partnership with the authorised WLAOs, and may extend the benefit of ‘on-us’ transactions (where the customer or cardholder and ATM are of the same bank) to their WLAs as well.


• White label ATM (WLA) comes under The Payment & Settlement Systems Act, 2007.

• The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India was awarded the First Prize in the category- TV Cinema Spot at the International Golden City Gate Tourism Awards 2019 held at Internationale Tourismus-Börse (ITB), Berlin. The awards were received by Shri Yogendra Tripathi, Secretary, Tourism.


• The awards were given for Yogi of the Racetrack, The Reincarnation of Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Sanctuary in Paris, Maharani of Manhattan, The Masala Master Chef films and TV commercials produced under the Incredible India 2.0 Campaign.

• The Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Maneka Gandhi, felicitated the 30 winners of the ‘Web Wonder Women’ contest organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in New Delhi.


• Maneka Gandhi, along with a panel of 10 judges, finalized the names of 30 women who have impacted and influenced society through social media.

• 1988 batch Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Param Bir Singh appointed Director General (DG) of the Maharashtra Anti-Corruption Bureau.


• He will replace Sanjay Barve who was appointed to the coveted post of Mumbai Police Commissioner.
