  • A senior general has said the US wants to create an international military coalition to safeguard waters around Iran and Yemen.

  • Marine General Joseph Dunford said he wanted to "ensure freedom of navigation" in the region, which provides essential trade routes.

  • Gen Dunford said the US was in talks with a number of countries who had the "political will" to support the plans.

  • China has confirmed he is being held on suspicion of "endangering national security". But his supporters have raised concerns about where he is being held and what they say are violations of his human rights.

  • Then on Sunday, his wife Yuan Ruijuan - who has been prevented from seeing her husband - was briefly detained by Chinese authorities after unsuccessfully trying to leave the country.

  • The Rajya Sabha witnessed its first adjournment on Tuesday in the inaugural session of the second term of Narendra Modi government over the Karnataka political crisis.

  • The issue rocked the Lok Sabha also, with Congress MPs staging a walkout after accusing the BJP of indulging in a “politics of poaching”. Wayanad MP Rahul Gandhi raised slogans against the ruling party. MPs of the DMK also walked out.

  • The Lok Sabha sat till 11.10 pm on Tuesday to conclude the debate on the Union Budget, the reply to which will be given by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, reports news agency PTI.

  • The voting on the Finance Bill is also expected to be taken up on Wednesday afternoon and the ruling BJP issued a whip to its members to be present in the House.

  • “Modi told MPs that everyone should carry out a 150-km-long padayatra in their constituencies during the period starting from October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, to October 31, the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,” Joshi told reporters after the meeting.

  • The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has proposed to remove the mandatory Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) and introduce a penalty for absenteeism, reported the print.

  • The CSAT tests candidate's comprehension, communication and decision-making skills. Due to mass protests, it was made a 'qualifying' test in 2015 and candidates have to score a minimum of 33% to qualify for the exam.

State Bank of India cuts lending rates by 5 bps

  • State Bank of India on Tuesday said it will pare its marginal cost of funds based lending rate (MCLR) by 5 basis points (bps) across all tenors with effect from July 10.

  • This move comes in the backdrop of the Reserve Bank of India cutting its policy repo rate by 25 basis points from 6 per cent to 5.75 per cent last month.
NABARD sees further consolidation in rural banks space this fiscal

  • Anik Industries: CARE revised rating on the company's long term bank facilities to C (issuer not cooperating) from B+/Stable (issuer not cooperating), on account of deterioration in its liquidity due to cash loss reported in FY19 and almost full utilization of working capital limits.

  • Garware Synthetics: Ramesh Chandorkar resigned as director of the company.

  • Nava Bharat Ventures: CRISIL has reaffirmed credit ratings for bank loan facilities of the company at A with a stable outlook.

  • BHEL: An agreement has been signed between the company and Container Corporation of India to form Joint Working Group to establish a rail-based logistics terminal at Haridwar.

  • Autoline Industries: As per the revised Eligibility Certificate the Government of Maharashtra has approved additional IPS claim of Rs 44.61 crore and out of said approved amount, the company has received a number of Rs 14.50 crore on July 8, 2019, and with this amount the company has received total of Rs 35.12 crores in three tranches. The remaining amount is expected shortly.

  • NLC India: Pursuant to the confirmation received from TANGEDCO, 63 MW capacity out of the 100 MW Solar PV power plant at Therkkupatti and Subbiahpuram Village, Tamilnadu, out of 709 MW solar power projects awarded by TANGEDCO has been successfully commissioned.
