Time and Work Quiz 15 questions are very useful for different exams such as IBPS PO, Clerk, SSC CGL, SBI PO, NIACL Assistant, NICL AO, IBPS SO, RRB, Railways, Civil Services etc.

shape Q1

10 women and 6 men can do a work in 5 days. 7 women and 8 men can do a same work in 6 days. How long will 12 women and 3 men can take to do the work?
    A. 4 ¾ days B. 5 days C. 3 days D. 6 days

Total work = (men (or) women) × days
Work equal,
(10w + 6m) × 5 = (7w + 8m) × 6
50w + 30m = 42w + 48m
8w = 18m
4w = 9m = > 1w = [latex](\frac {9}{4}) [/latex] m
10w + 6m = 10 × [latex](\frac {9}{4}) [/latex] m + 6m = [latex](\frac {57}{2}) [/latex] m
12w + 5m = 12 × [latex](\frac {9}{4}) [/latex] m + 3 m = 30 m
Women days
[latex](\frac {57}{2})[/latex] 5
30 ?

[latex](\frac {57}{2}) \times 5 [/latex]= 30x
X = [latex](\frac {57}{2}) \times (\frac {5}{30})[/latex] = [latex]4 \frac {9}{12} [/latex]= [latex]4 \frac {3}{4} [/latex] days

shape Q2

(x-3) person can do a work in x days and (x+3) person can do the same work in (x-5) days. Then in how many days can (x+5) person finish the work?
    A. 12 days B. 9 days C. 8 days D. 10 days

(x + 3) person can do the work in = (x – 5)
(x – 3) × x = (x + 3) (x – 5)
[latex]{X}^{2} – 3x = {x}^{2} – 5x + 3x – 15[/latex]
X = 15
Person days
12 15
20 ?

(12 × 15) = 20 × y
Y = [latex] \frac {180}{20}[/latex] = 9 days

shape Q3

P can do a piece of work in 21 days. Q is 40 percent more efficient than P. Then in how many days the work gets completed when both are working simultaneously?
    A. 10 days B. 8 ¾ days C. 9 days D. 12 days

Efficiency ratio [latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] Q : P = 140 : 100 = 7 : 5
Days ratio [latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] Q : P = 5 : 7
P can do a piece of work in 21 days
7’s = 21 [latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] 1’s = 3
So Q can complete the work in 15 days
[latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] 1/21 + 1/15
[latex]\Rightarrow \frac {36}{(21 \times 15)} = \frac {4}{35}[/latex]
P and Q together can complete the work in [latex] \frac {35}{4} = 8 \frac {3}{4} [/latex]days

shape Q4

If 4 men or 7 women can reap a field in 49 days, then what will be the time taken by 6 men and 14 women to reap the field?
    A. 12 days B. 10 days C. 16 days D. 14 days

Men Women days
4 7 49
6 14 ?

Required days = [latex]\frac {(4 \times 7 \times 49)}{(56 + 42)} = \frac {(4 \times 7 \times 49)}{98}[/latex]
[latex]\Rightarrow[/latex] 14 days

shape Q5

20 men can complete a work in 12 days. 6 days after they started the work, 5 men left the job. How many days will it take to complete the remaining work?
    A. 10 days B. 7 days C. 8 days D. 6 days

Total work = men × days
Total work = 20 × 12 = 240
6 days work = 20 × 6 = 120
Remaining work = 240 – 120 = 120 work
Now, the total men = 20 – 5 = 15 men
Remaining work can be completed in,
[latex]\Rightarrow \frac {120}{15} = 8 [/latex] days
Remaining work gets completed in 8 days.
