# Paper Cutting

### Description

Paper cutting problems are related to analysis of pattern that is formed when folded piece of paper have been cut in a definite design. A step wise procedure of problems on paper cutting:-
• An arrangement of three figures demonstrating the way in which a bit of paper has been folded is given.
• In each of the initial two figures, a spotted line together with an arrow on it is given.
• The spotted line is the reference line along which the paper must be folded and the arrow demonstrates the direction of the fold.
• These two figures demonstrate the succession in which the paper is folded.
• In the third figure there are marks demonstrating the position and the way of the cut made in the folded sheet.
• Select one of the figures from the arrangement of four option figures which would most nearly look like the standard when the paper is unfolded.
NOTE:- Clearly, the plans of the cut will show up on each of the folds made in the paper.

### Model Problems

Model 1: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. (S.S.C. 2004) OPTIONS:- Solution: b Model 2: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. (S.S.C. 2002) OPTIONS:- Solution: c Model 3: An unnumbered figure followed by four answer figures marked a, b, c and d. Manner of paper folding is shown in unnumbered figure by dotted lines. Select a figure from amongst the answer figures most nearly look like the unfolded form. OPTIONS:- Solution: c Model 4: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. OPTIONS:- Solution: c Model 5: Figures marked X, and Y showing rectangular piece of paper folded in figure X and punched in figure Y. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Y from three figures which are followed by four options. OPTIONS:- Solution: d Model 6: A square paper is folded in a particular manner and a punch is made. When unfolded, the paper appears as shown below: (S.S.C. 2002) Determine the manner in which the paper is folded and punch is made from the options given: Solution: d Model 7: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. OPTIONS:- Solution: c Model 8: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. OPTIONS:- Solution: b Model 9: Three figures, marked X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. OPTIONS:- Solution: b Model 10: Four figures, marked P, X, Y and Z shows a sequence of folding of a piece of paper are given. Manner of paper folding is shown in figure Z by dotted lines. Select the figure most nearly look like the unfolded form of figure Z from three figures which are followed by four options. (S.S.C. 2004) OPTIONS:- Solution: b
