RRB ALP Exam Pattern 2018

Understanding the RRB ALP Technicians Exam Pattern and Syllabus will help the candidates in devising effective preparation strategies. Speed/Time management is vital in obtaining a good score in any competitive exam and hence, analysis of RRB ALP Technician exam pattern and syllabus is very crucial to be able to complete the exams in the stipulated time.


There shall be two stages of examination (First stage CBT and Second Stage CBT) common for the posts ALP and Technician. In addition, candidates who have opted for ALP and qualified in Second Stage CBT have to undergo Computer Based Aptitude Test (AT). Marks will be normalized in all the stages of exam.

First Satge consisting of Objective Tests will be conducted online. This test would be of 60 minutes (80 minutes for eligible PWD candidates accompanied with scribe) duration consisting of 75 questions, 4 sections as follows.

The Second Stage CBT shall have two parts viz Part A and Part B as detailed below.
PART A - PART A consisting of Objective Tests will be conducted online. This test would be of 90 minutes duration consisting of 100 questions, 4 sections as follows.

The marks scored in Part A alone shall be used for short listing of candidates for further stages of recruitment process subject to the condition that the candidate is securing qualifying mark in Part B.
Qualifying Marks for Part A: UR – 40%, OBC – 30%, SC-30%, ST – 25 %
PART B - This part is qualifying in nature and shall have questions from the Trade Syllabus [Click Here] prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET). PART B consisting of Objective Tests will be conducted online. This test would be of 60 minutes duration consisting of 75 questions.

Qualifying Marks for Part B: 35 % (This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible)

Computer Based Aptitude Test (AT) (Only for candidates who have opted for ALP)
Qualifying marks: The candidate needs to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify. This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible.
✦ Candidates equal to 8 times number of ALP vacancies for each of the communities i.e. UR, OBC-NCL, SC and ST (including ExSM) shall be short listed for Computer Based AT (based on their performance in Part A of the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT) from among the candidates who have opted for the post of ALP. Such shortlisted candidates should produce the Vision Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure – VI [Click Here] in original during Computer Based AT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear in the Computer Based AT.
✦ Candidates will have to qualify in each of the test battery of Computer Based AT for considering them for the post of ALP. The Computer Based Aptitude Test shall have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi. There shall be no negative marking in Computer Based AT.
✦ The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based AT.
