An SSC CHSL employee who has five to seven years of working experience can appear in a departmental exam to get a promotion. Otherwise, he/she automatically become eligible for promotions after serving for eight to ten years in a position.

  • The metropolitan cities have been included in the X category, whereas Y category includes the cities that come next after the main cities.

  • The Z category includes all the other important cities of India.

  • Looking at the classification of these cities is important before checking the revised salaries after the approval of the 7th pay commission because the city where the candidate serves plays a major role in the final gross salary of the employee.

Which are the benefits and perks that a candidate is liable for after clearing the SSC CHSL exam?
There are several perks and allowances allotted for the candidates who are working in their respective positions after clearing the SSC CHSL exam. These are some allowances that they receive:
  • HRA is given to cover the accommodation expenses of the employee.

  • HRA is 24 percent of the basic pay for the employees working in the X city whereas it is 18 percent of the basic pay for the employees working in the Y city.

  • Employees working in the Z city are eligible for HRA of 8 percent of the basic pay.

  • If the DA i.e. Dearness Allowance crosses the limit of 25 percent then the HRA gets revised to 27, 18, and 9 percent for X, Y, and Z cities respectively.

  • If the DA i.e. Dearness Allowance crosses the limit of 50 percent then the HRA gets revised to 30, 30, and 10 percent for X, Y, and Z cities respectively.
  • TA is given to cover the daily commutation expenses of the employee.

  • TA of Rs. 3600 is given to those employees who are serving in cities whereas TA of Rs. 1800 is given to the employees who are serving in towns and rural areas.
  • DA is offered to cover the cost of living in a particular place.

  • Currently, it is offered up to 17 percent of the basic pay.
  • This allowance is meant for reimbursing the travel expenses incurred to the employee while travelling to their native place or any other place in India.
  • Apart from the allowances, the employees get the perks of a secure job, harmonious environment, and healthy work culture while serving as an SSC CHSL employee.
