Handling the Cash counter: One of the primary functions of an SBI clerk is to ensure public interaction. Interacting with the public begins from handling of the cash, acceptance of the cheque, demand draft as well as disseminating the information to customers. Educating the customers about banking products happens through the single window operation in the bank.
Maintaining the cash balance: Proper scrutiny of the cash balance has to be done on a regular basis. At the end of the day, the cash balances are tallied. If there is any deficit or surplus noted in the balance, it has to be reported to the higher authority. If the cash balance is below the minimum threshold, it is the responsibility of the clerk to contact the nearest branches for balancing the cash balance.
Deliverables: Proper care must be taken to look after the deliverables. They include the checkbooks, insurance cross-selling, ATM card disbursal and many such financial instruments.
Record maintenance: Maintaining the record of the transactions as well as that of the various deliverables become an integral part of the work of the cashier. It becomes highly important to have a regularized flow of work, such that there is no confusion in the conduct.
Other than the works mentioned above, with experience, the clerk is promoted to head cashier. He becomes responsible for the cash vault and any mismatch in the currency becomes his accountability. Being the face of the branch, he has to ensure that every facet of the branch functions efficiently.
