  • The Reserve Bank of India (Note Refund) Amendment Rules, 2018. It directed all branches of banks to exchange mutilated / defective notes of various denominations.

  • This decision was taken by the provision to section 28 read with sub-section (1) and clause (q) of sub-section (2) of section 58 of the Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934.

Eight avian species declared “extinct” in this decade: BirdLife International
Key Highlights:
  • On September 9, 2018, according to a new study by Bird Life International, 8 avian species was declared “extinct” in this decade.

  • It was carried out to analyse 51 Critically Endangered birds six statistical methods to assign to the IUCN Red List Category to determine which of them qualify as ‘potentially extinct’ and ‘extinct’.

  • The study also cites reasons for the 187 extinctions that have occurred since documentation of species began back in the 1500s.
