2nd Edition of IndiaSkills 2018 in New Delhi

Key Highlights:

  • From 4th to 6th October 2018, 2nd edition of India Skills 2018, India’s biggest skill competition, was conducted in New Delhi.

  • India Skills 2018 was organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. It aimed to identify, promote and reward the best talents in different skills.

  • 450 participants took part in the competitions. 46 competition trades and 10 demonstration trades participated.

  • Winners were awarded by Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant kumar Hegde and Subhash Ghai, Chairman of Media and Entertainment Skills Council and India Film Director.

  • Some winners will be given more training and will be sent to represent India at the 45th World Skills Competition at Kazan, Russia in 2019.

  • Persons with disabilities also participated. These winners will participate at the World level competition in Abilympics in China.

Country’s first methanol-based cooking fuel rolled out by APL in Assam

  • On October 6, 2018, NITI Aayog member and former director general of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Vijay Kumar Saraswat inaugurated the ‘Green and Clean Fuel Pilot Project on Methanol cooking Stove’.

  • This launched the country’s first methanol based cooking oil by Namrup-based Assam Petrochemicals Limited (APL).

  • It is the first of its kind in realizing the concept of NITI Aayog’s programme of ‘Methanol Economy’.

  • Initially the product will be available only in the Northeastern Region.

  • It is available in canisters of 1.2 kg capacity each, which will be priced at around Rs 32.And 18 Canisters will be equal to 1 domestic LPG Cylinder.

  • On October 5, 2018, President Ramnath Kovind formally inaugurated the 4-day 4th India International Science Festival (IISF) 2018 in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh for the first time.

RBI approved formation of ‘Kerala Bank’ having Rs 650 bn in deposits

  • On October 3, 2018, RBI approved the proposal of Kerala government for the formation of Kerala Bank.

  • The decision was taken by special task force headed by Chairman M S Sriram.

  • The bank will be formed by consolidating State Cooperative Bank and the 14 district cooperatives.

  • It will have a net deposit amount of Rs 650 billion.

  • Shooting and cycling events will be held in New Delhi since Goa does not have the facilities for these sports.

  • Five sports: Rugby, Wushu, Modern Penthatlon, Lawn Bowl, and Billiards and Snooker, will be added to the Games programme.Expected budget of the Event is Rs.400 Crore.

Srinivasan Swamy appointed chairman of International Advertising Association (IAA)

  • Srinivasan Swamy took charge as chairman and world president of the International Advertising Association (IAA) for 2 years, at an event in Bucharest, Romania, recently.
