Understanding the Exam pattern and syllabus will help the candidates in devising effective preparation strategies. Speed/Time management is vital in obtaining a good score in any competitive exam and hence, analysis of SSC CGL Exam Pattern and syllabus is very crucial to be able to complete the exams in the stipulated time.
The SSC CGL selection process has four Tiers. Tier I and the Tier II are Computer Based Examination. Tier III is Descriptive Test and Tier IV is Skill Test which are conducted offline.

Pattern
SSC CGL 2020 Tier-1 will be conducted tentatively from 2nd to 11th March 2020. The exam will be conducted online consisting of 4 sections General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude and English Comprehension with about 100 questions, 200 marks and 1 hour.

The exam will be conducted online comprising of 4 sections Quantitative Ability, Statistics, General Studies (Finance & Economics), English Language & Comprehension with about a 100 questions, each section 200 Marks and 2 hours each paper.

Note:
1. In Tier-II, there will be negative marking of 0.25 for each wrong answer in Paper-II (English Language and Comprehension) and of 0.50 marks for each wrong answer in Paper-I, Paper-III and Paper-IV.
2. In Tier-II, Paper-I and Paper-II are compulsory for all the posts.
3. In Tier-II, Paper-III will be for only those candidates who apply for the post of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) and who are shortlisted in Tier-I for this Post/ Paper.
4. In Tier-II, Paper-IV will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-IV i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.
SSC CGL Tier-III will be a descriptive test. The paper will be in English/Hindi and will constitute of 100 marks. The entire paper needs to be completed in 1 hour.

Note: The merit will be prepared on overall performance in Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III. However, the candidate will need to qualify all the tiers i.e Tier-I, Tier-II and Tier-III separately.

Note: OH candidates opting for the post of Tax Assistant in CBDT are exempted for appearing in Skill Test. OH candidates opting for post of Tax Assistant in CBEC are not exempted from Skill Test. HH and VH candidates are not eligible for exemption from the Skill Test.
VH candidates will be allowed additional compensatory time of 5 (five) minutes in DEST. Only those VH candidates who opt for scribes in the written examination will be provided passage reader at the time of Skill Test.
