What do the RRB JE and RRB ALP jobs offer to a candidate?
  • RRB stands for the Railway Recruitment Board that generates ample job opportunities to the students of different educational backgrounds.

  • RRB JEs (Junior Engineers) are recruited by the CE (Civil Engineering) Department that operates under RRB. This department offers various numerous posts to those candidates who are willing to work for Indian Railways.

  • RRB JE is a supervisor level job that makes a candidate responsible for the maintenance works of buildings, construction works, water supply, land encroachment that is owned by Indian Railways, etc.

  • RRB ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot) is a job that comes with great responsibilities. An Assistant Loco Pilot ensures that the trains are running safely by assisting the driver, sending emergency signals, etc.

RRB Junior Engineer
The job role of RRB JE differs as per the type of Junior Engineer he/she is. For example, the duties of RRB Mechanical JE will be different than those of RRB CIVIL JE.
  • Inspecting construction works and tracks

  • RRB JE (Civil) is in charge of railway staff quarters, water tanks, railway land, and other physical properties of the Indian Railway such as over bridges, platforms, etc.

  • Periodical inspection of store equipment and tools

  • Drafting estimation and preparing drawings
  • Maintenance of electrical train

  • Maintaining traction and overhead tools and equipment such as substations

  • Protecting mainline MEMUs/EMUs
  • Monitoring signalling installations

  • Finalizing the estimated work budget proposal

  • Periodic review of work/projects
  • Inspecting condition of wagons and coaches

  • Preparing defect-free and safe stock like diesel
  • Updating information on the railway's website

  • Making fax machines, computer software and hardware available
  • Helping the Loco Pilot when it comes to the maintenance works of the locomotive
  • Helping the Loco Pilot in calling out signals after sighting them

  • Carrying out locomotive’s minor repairs

  • Inspecting locomotive's efficiency regularly

  • The selection process for RRB JE and RRB ALP jobs are quite different. A candidate has to clear a written examination initially to qualify as an RRB Junior Engineer.

  • After clearing this test, the documents of the candidate are verified. Once the documents get verified, the candidate has to go through a medical test.

  • The medical test is conducted to ensure that the candidate is mentally and physically fit to discharge his duties as a Junior Engineer.
  • A candidate who wants to become an RRB ALP also needs to clear a written examination. Moreover, he needs to clear an aptitude exam after that.

  • After clearing these two exams, the documents of the candidate are verified.
