Short listing of Candidates for the RRB JE Document Verification shall be based on the normalized marks obtained by them in 2nd Stage CBT. The normalization scheme to be adopted for short listing the candidates from 1st Stage CBT to 2nd Stage CBT and for DV on the basis of performance in 2nd Stage CBT is detailed below:
1. Normalization of the Marks:
Whenever CBT is conducted in multiple sessions for the same syllabus, the raw marks obtained by the candidates in different sessions will be converted to normalized marks.
The raw marks for single session paper and normalized marks for multi session paper will be used for computing Merit Index, which is a common benchmark for generating merit for candidates from different Exam Groups.
2. Calculation of Normalized Marks for Multi-Session Papers:
In 1st Stage CBT and for some Exam Groups in 2nd Stage CBT, the examination may be conducted in multi-sessions. Hence, for these multisession papers, a suitable normalization is applied to take into account any variation in the difficulty levels of the question papers across different sessions.
The formula for calculating the normalized marks for the multi-session papers is detailed below:
Normalization mark of [latex]j^{th}[/latex] candidate in [latex]i^{th}[/latex] session [latex]\widehat{M}_{ij}[/latex] is given by:
[latex]\widehat{M}_{ij}[/latex] = [latex]\frac{\overline{M}_{t}^g - {M}_{q}^g}{\overline{M}_{ti} - {M}_{iq}}({M}_{ij} - {M}_{iq}) + {M}_{q}^g[/latex]
[latex]{M}_{ij}[/latex]: is the actual marks obtained by the jth candidate in [latex]j^{th}[/latex] session.
[latex]\overline{M}_{t}^g[/latex]: is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates considering all sessions.
[latex]{M}_{q}^g[/latex]: is the sum of mean and standard deviation marks of the candidates in the paper considering all sessions.
[latex]\overline{M}_{ti}[/latex]: is the average marks of the top 0.1% of the candidates in the ith session or marks of topper if session strength is less than 1000.
[latex]{M}_{iq}[/latex]: is the sum of the mean marks and standard deviation of the [latex]i^{th}[/latex] session
3. Calculation of Merit Index for All Papers:
In order to generate a common merit list comprising of candidates who gave examination from different Exam Groups, but eligible for a common post, merit index will be computed. For all papers for which there is only one session, actual marks obtained by the candidates will be used for calculating Merit Index, while for papers in multi-sessions, normalized marks will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate and the Merit Index will be calculated based on the normalized marks.
The Merit Index will be computed using the formula given below :
Merit Index = [latex]S_{q} + (S_{t} - S_{q})\frac{M - M_{q}}{\overline{M}_{t} - M_{q}}[/latex]
(Merit Index is the relative score of a candidate within the discipline.)
M: Marks obtained by the candidate (actual/raw marks for single session exam and normalized marks for multi session exam.
[latex]M_{q}[/latex]: The qualifying marks for general category candidate in the paper (40).
[latex]\overline{M}_{t}[/latex]: The mean marks of top 0.1% or top 10 whichever is larger of the candidates who appeared in the paper (in case of multi session exam including all sessions)
[latex]S_{q}[/latex]: 350 is the score assigned to[latex]M_{q}[/latex]
[latex]S_{t}[/latex]: 900 is the score assigned to [latex]\overline{M}_{t}[/latex]
The qualifying marks ([latex]M_{q}[/latex]) for general category candidate is 40.
The Merit Index will be calculated for UR, OBC, SC, ST candidates whose actual marks for single session exam and normalized marks for multi session exam are equal or above the community qualifying marks prescribed in Para 13.2. Based on the Merit Index generated, a combined merit list of the candidates of different disciplines/Exam Group will be prepared in the descending order of merit and the allotment of the preference will be done on the basis of this merit list.
RRB-wise shortlisting of candidates for 2nd Stage CBT shall be done at the rate of 15 times (may increase or decrease as per the requirement of Railway Administration). The shortlisting of 2nd Stage CBT will be based on the merit of the candidates in 1st Stage CBT. The RRB-wise shortlisted candidates for 2nd Stage CBT shall be advised through the official websites of RRBs and e-mail to download their e-call letter for appearing in the 2nd Stage CBT.
In case of two or more candidates securing same marks, their merit position shall be determined by age criteria i.e., older person shall be placed at higher merit and in case age being same, then alphabetical order (a to z) of the name shall be taken into account to break the tie.
Appointment of selected candidates is subject to their passing requisite Medical Fitness Test to be conducted by the Railway Administration, final verification of educational and community certificates and verification of antecedents/character of the candidates.
Note:
Candidates may please note that RRBs only recommend names of the empanelled candidates and appointment is offered ONLY by the respective Railway Administrations.
