JEE Main Guidelines are provided to familiarize the candidates with the different policies and regulations of the Examination, Examination center and in general about the Do’s and Dont’s in the recruitment process. This chapter covers the JEE Main 2020 Exam Day Guidelines pertaining to but not limited to: what kind of stationery items to be carried inside the examination hall, reporting time & gate closing time, particulars to be noted, proof of identity to be submitted etc.
Note:
No Candidate should adopt any unfair means, or indulge in any unfair examination practices as the examination centres are under surveillance of CCTV and equipped with Jammers.

JEE Main Guidelines - Prohibited Items:
Candidates are NOT allowed to carry Instrument/ Geometry/ Pencil box, Handbag, Purse, any kind of Paper/ Stationery/ Textual material (printed or written material), Eatables and Water (loose or packed), Mobile Phone/ Ear Phone/ Microphone/ Pager, Calculator, DocuPen, Slide Rules, Log Tables, Camera, Tape Recorder, to wear/ carry any type of watch including Electronic Watches with facilities of calculator, any metallic item or electronic gadgets/ devices in the Examination Hall/ Room.
There may not be any provision for safe keeping of valuables at the Centre.
Note:
However, for Paper-II, the Candidates will carry Geometry Box Set, Pencils, Erasers and Colour Pencils or Crayons. The Candidates are not allowed to use water colour on Drawing Sheets.
JEE Main Guidelines - Particulars to be Noted
Candidates should visit the Examination Centre, a day before the examination and familiarize yourself with the location and means of reaching at venue of the Test on time.
Please reach the venue of the Test before the Reporting Time mentioned in the Admit Card. If you report beyond the Gate Closing time of the Centre, you will not be allowed to enter the Test venue. Instructions have been issued for strict compliance. Several pre-examination formalities need to be completed and therefore please reach on time.
Diabetic students will be allowed to carry eatables like sugar tablets/ fruits (like banana/ apple/ orange) and transparent water bottle to the Examination Hall/ Room. However, they will not be allowed to carry packed foods like chocolates/ candy/ sandwich etc.
Pen and blank paper sheets for rough work will be provided in the examination Hall/ Room.
Candidates must write their name and Roll Number at the top of the sheet, and must return the sheets and Admit Card to the Invigilator, before leaving the examination Hall/ Room.
Candidate may also note that the Examination will be computer based.
Note:
Candidate should also go through all Instructions given in the Admit Card and the Information Bulletin.
JEE Main Guidelines - Punctuality in Attendance
The candidates shall report at the Examination Centre two hours before the commencement of the examination so as to complete the frisking and registration formalities well before the time. Registration desk will be closed 60 minutes prior to the examination.
Candidates shall not be permitted to enter in the Examination Hall/ Room after 8:30 a.m. in first shift and after 1:30 p.m. in second shift.
Note:
The candidates are advised to read the instructions on the admit card carefully and follow them during the conduct of the examination.
JEE Main Guidelines - Use of Books, Notes, Calculators & Cell Phones
No calculator separate or with watch is allowed inside the examination hall.
No Cell phones will be allowed inside the examination hall.
No books, slide rulers, note books or written notes will be allowed inside the examination hall.
JEE Main Guidelines - Seating
A seat will be allocated to each candidate. Candidates should find and sit on their allocated seat only. Any candidate found to have changed room/ hall or the seat on his/ her own other than allotted, his/ her candidature shall be cancelled and no plea would be accepted for it.
Candidates shall maintain perfect silence and attend to their Question Paper only.
Note:
No candidate, without the special permission of the Centre Superintendent or the Invigilator concerned, will leave his/ her seat or Examination Room/ Hall until the full duration of the paper is over.
JEE Main Guidelines - Rough work
You should do all the necessary rough work on the sheet provided only. After the test is over, you should hand over the sheet, given for rough work to the invigilator on duty in the Room/ Hall..
Any candidate who does not return the above material or is found to attempt to take or pass on the questions or answers inside or outside the examination hall will be disqualified.
ID Proof
JEE Main Guidelines - Proof of Identity:
Candidates MUST bring the following documents on the day of examination at the test centre. Candidates who will not bring these will not be allowed to sit in the examination.
Print copy of Admit Card downloaded from NTA's website.
One passport size photograph (same as uploaded on the Online Application Form) should be taken for pasting on the specific space in the attendance sheet at Centre during the examination.
Anyone of the authorized photo IDs (must be original, valid and non-expired) – PAN card/ Driving License/ Voter ID/ Passport/ Aadhaar Card (With photograph)/ Ration Card.
PwD certificate issued by the authorized medical officer, if claiming the relaxation under PwD category.
Note:
The candidate must show, on demand, the Admit Card downloaded/ printed from the NTA's website for entry in the examination room/ hall. Acandidate who doesnotpossess the valid Admit Card shall not be permitted for the examination under any circumstances by the Centre Superintendent.
JEE Main Guidelines - Unfair Means:
Any conversation or gesture or disturbance in the Examination Room/ Hall shall be deemed as misbehavior.
If a candidate is found using unfair means or impersonating, his/her candidature shall be cancelled and he/ she will be liable to be debarred fortaking examination either permanently orfor a specified period according to the nature of offence.
If any candidate is in possession of any of the above mentioned items, his/her candidature will be treated as unfair means and his/ her current examination will be cancelled & he/she will also be debarred for future examination(s) & the equipment will be seized.
Note:
The decision of NTA on unfair means will be final and no correspondence will be entertained in this regard.
JEE Main Guidelines - For Parents
The parents/guardians will also be required to follow some guidelines which will soon be officially announced by NTA. Let’s take a look at some of the obvious ones:
Parents/guardians are requested not to come to the exam centre with the candidates unless and until they have to.
If they do need to come to the exam centre, then they are requested to drop the candidates and leave the premises immediately.
Barricades will be put up at the centres and the parents/guardians are expected to follow the guidelines.
