Initially, An SBI Probationary officer is designated as Junior Management Grade-1 Officer. He/ she has to go through a probation period of 2 years. As far as SBI PO Career Progression is concerned, Sky is the limit. State Bank of India provides faster promotions to its Probationary Officers than other banks in India.
There are a lot of opportunities which are available for any Probationary Officer in SBI. An SBI PO can reach to great heights in his or her career.
Almost All the chairman of State Bank of India and its associate banks had started their careers as a Probationary Officer only.
SBI PO career path is still one of the fastest if you compare it with other government jobs. Apart from the very fast promotion channels, there are rewards, recognition and attractive postings for performers.
While the promotion channel for Specialist Cadre Officer is quite slow in all banks as there are less opportunity for these officers.

There are normally three types of Officers in the bank, those who got promotion from clerical cadre, Specialist Cadre Officers and those who joined as Probationary Officers.

Probationary Officer: At first the candidates who got selected in SBI PO exam are posted as Probationary Officer that are also known as Assistant Manager or JMGS I. This is the first lever of your future as PO.
Deputy Manager: After the Probationary Officer, the candidates go promoted as Deputy Manager that is also called MMGS II.
Manager: Also known as MMGS III. It is the next promoting stage for Probationary Officers in SBI bank.
Chief Manager: This is the next promoting level. Chief Manager is known as SMGS IV.
Assistant General Manager: Assistant General Manager is the reputed post that can be achieved after Chief Manager. This is also known as SMGS V.
Deputy General Manager: TEGS VI is also known as Deputy General Manager. It is the second biggest and reputed post for Probationary Officers that may get it after being promoted.
General Manager: TEGS VII is the most popular post for a Probationary Officer that can be achieved after 2–3 years of posting. A General Manager can be posted in out of India head quarter of SBI bank.
Many Probationary Officers try to get promoted in higher level of PO posts so that they may get good position and can make their future secure.
