UGC NET Exam Pattern

Understanding the UGC NET exam pattern will help the candidates in devising effective preparation strategies. Speed/Time management is vital in obtaining a good score in any competitive exam and hence, analysis of UGC NET exam pattern is very crucial to be able to complete the exams in the stipulated time.

The Test will consist of two papers. Both the papers will consist of only objective type questions and will be attempted with a break of 30 minutes between them.
Paper Marks Number of Questions Pattern
I 100 50 The questions will be generic in nature, intending to assess the teaching/research aptitude of the candidate. It will primarily be designed to test reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking and general awareness of the candidate.
II 200 100 This will be based on the subject selected by the candidate. All the questions of Paper–II will be compulsory.
